I had a 06 imp. By my cronograph all it did was burn more powder to do the same thing my 3 reg. 06s did.

Bountyhunter...You want to improve your .30-36??? Leave that rifle as it is and purchase a .300 Winchester magnum. I would find it very hard to improve what is a very good preformer as it is (.30-06). But if you want to reach out just a little farther (300 fps) and one hell of a shoulder pounder. Go for it...My oldest son (a 6'1" er) just bought a Browning A-bolt in .300 Win Mag and he is askin' dad if he can down load it a bit...I told him sure. (Chuckle)

Totally agree.....you really can't improve on an 06 other than a 300WM. But you could sure run your 06 hot and closely duplicate lower 300 results.
Good afternoon Bushmaster

You better be duckin' behind that wall...
Hey 10ring. Guess what...My 13 year old granddaughter is coming down for Christmas and my son (mentioned above) has sent orders that I am to instruct her in the fine art of shooting. So I guess I will be down loading some .30-06 rounds for her (bit of a slight young lady). I am going to have a ball with her. Between runs to the range and horse rides into the foothills (sorry Spacedone), it will be one damn good Christmas. I will be instructin' her with .22 rifle and pistol, 9mmX19, .38 spec.,...Oh hell...She will go home with a stories to tell her class mates....30-30, .45 ACP, .357 mag. She already hunts upland game bird with her dad...And out fishes her dad in Puget Sound... Hot diggedy-dog. This young lady is an outdoors woman...

I'm ready for ya now!
That's great Bushmaster! My daughters love shooting, but although still too young to hunt, they think fishing is the greatest thing since they first found out there are different kinds of caramel and toffee. LOL
You know, speaking about your son and him wanting to down load the 300....You know a lot of the younger generation always "THINKS" bigger is better, well i got one for you.
While working one afternoon a kid (18y/o) wants to buy a new Remingtom 338 Ultra Mag for michigan deer (mostly) and this will be the rifle to have, just in case the chance comes up to go out west. So i asked if he has shot a rifle like this before and he said "yeah, no problem" and well, i couldn't refuse the kid his right (knowing he was going to be hurting) so i sold it to him with a few recoil reducing pointers.
Five days later here comes this kid....WITH HIS MOM... and he apprehensively says "i'd like to sell this" (his rifle, scope, and 17 rounds of ammo) then i asked, is there anything wrong. His mom says Show him, show him how much of a tough guy you are....This kid lifted his shirt and was badly bruised from his right shoulder to his left abdomen.....the recoil passed through his body and did that from what his mom said the doctor said, because he was fresh out of the hospital!!!!!!!!!
It turns out that he held the rifle wrong and only shot it 3 times!! I will honestly say though, that was the worse bruise i'd ever seen in my life!

At present I have need of only two rifles....30-30 for my close and brushy work and .30-06 for my long range work. I have never shot at anything more then 250 yards distance. And I see no reason why I need anything bigger the what I have. My oldest is going Elk (Roosevelt). I told him that all he needed was a .30-06 well loaded, but you know, his buddies...At least I was able to talk him out of the Short magnums...

Been hearing too much trouble with cycling problems with the short fat cases. Besides...What does it take to pull the bolt back for a long case. I doubt that you save all that much time and I see no advantage in having a shorter pull. What is it? One inch??? I need a break here...Oops...Beer glass's empty...
Where's Bounty Hunter???

Well, with all the Shorts i've had, there has never been a cycling problem.
And i don't think it's about the time you save, but more of a weight to power ratio with out the the added recoil of conventional magnum calibers.
I'm going to have a drink myself

I got 2900 fps with RL 22 and 180 gr slugs. This was from a Win 70 with the BOSS on so basically a 21.5" bbl.

using accurate 2520 powder i get 2700+ fps out of my 303 enfield longbranch at way below max loads with 150 gr hornady loc and over 2600 fps with 180 gr sierra spitzers using imr 3031
i can load down using the imr to 30 30 power loads or upto lower 30 06 fps power using the accurate and can shoot from 125 gr bullets to 215 gr bullets depending on what i want to shoot.
the 06 is the perfect gun for all game in the US but i believe the 303 is more cost effective vs recoil for smaller framed people. im 6'1 and 200 pounds but have been shooting my enfield since i was 8 years old and about 50 pounds.
a 06 today runs 3-500 dollars where a 60 year old enfield can be gotten at 125 dollars. ammo is getting a little hard to find but by reloading i can load 20 rounds for under 3 dollars.
im getting ready to buy a new charles daly left hand 30 06 for 480 dollars from my gunshop {special order} because i personally think the 06 is the perfect round but ill still do most of my hunting with my 125 dollar longbranch. {it shoots half inch groups off a bench rest at 100 yards and doesnt bruise me any}
