Winchester 1400 Mk IIs were made from 1968-72. My old 28th edition Blue Book shows price ranging from $120 to $425 US depending on model and condition.

With guns, don't believe half of what you hear and only most of what you see. Take it out to the range and get to know it. It may just preform exactly how you'd expect a shotgun to.

PAL = Possession and Acquisition License.

Basically it allows you to own and buy firearms and ammunition in Canada.

I must admit I like the idea of it, I just don't like the registration part of the law. If you have a license you should be able to buy and sell any amount of firearms as you please.

A PAL means that your criminal background is clean, that you passed a SAFETY course (not really a "firearms" course) so you'll hopefully know the answers to many stupid ideas before they cross your mind. And that you have at least a few friends/family who think your sane enough to own guns.

Dimitri

Which means that the gun-grabbers have you half brainwashed.....

I don't believe you should be required to pass a "safety" course in order to own a gun, in MY mind owning a gun is a right, not a priviledge to be administered and "doled out"by the government. I think it is a VERY good idea for gun owners to seek instruction, but don't think it should be a requirement.

And what do your friends and family have to do with it??

Do they ask for references there?

What if someone maybe isn't so sure you're worthy of owning a gun??

Can you get denied a "license" 'cause of a "bad" reference?

I just don't think you should need to prove you're "worthy" of KEEPING your God given right to defend yourself......

Defending yourself with a firearm or even a knife in Canada is a touchy issue, self defense as a reason to own firearms is not acceptable, has not been for many years (read before I was born). Wink

And yes a SAFETY course should be MANDATORY. There are many people anywhere you go who should not own guns because they are idiots when it comes to the basic safety rules. Just look at some of the posts on any gun board. Shocked

As for your references, they call, confirm a few things (such as your age etc) and touch around the issue if the reference feels your not "Stable" in the head if you know what I mean. You need 2 friends to vouch for you, and your spouse/common law if you have one. I have not heard of someone getting denied a license cause of them on its own.

Chambered,

I do NOT have a concealed carry permit for several reasons.

1. I do NOT wanna be on the "list"
2. I can NOT carry at work
3. I drive a company owned vehicle, and the company prohibits weapons in their vehicles.
4. If I'm NOT at work, I usually don't have a reason to conceal anything

Given the current political environment though, I HAVE been thinking about getting my CCW (since they most likely will be discontinued soon).

And who is the keeper of the "safety course" records?

If it's the government, it's just another means of keeping track of who has guns, and where they are, and possibly what guns they have.....

NOT being able to defend yourself (whether in your home or on the streets) against the crooks (non-law abiding or law creating) is the TRUE crime......

Hate to say it but the Instant Background checks in stores in the US gives the government the same information. Wink

My point to this was going to be, some people get these permits to stay legal and not become the criminal !!!

It’s not about being brainwashed !!! Although I do admit a line needs to be drawn somewhere.

Dimitri, I don’t disagree with safety, but even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.
Who is the government to say/determine if I’m allowed to attempt to defend myself or family.

Dimitri

IF you buy ALL your guns through FFL dealers....

It doesn't cover PRIVATE transactions between individuals....

and you can "read" whatever you want into that.....

Oh, and by the way...

ALL the questions I ever asked about reloading ammunition were purely hypothetical........
