A little move in the right direction. Write your state legislators in support.

S. 347

2 February 2009

The following gun-related bill has been sponsored in the South Carolina General Assembly!

Bill S. 347 sponsored by Sen. Shane Martin(R-Richland).

This bill would allow CWP holders to have their self-defense firearm inside their vehicle while dropping off or picking up a child at school, so long as the firearm does not leave the vehicle. If S. 347 passes, parents who possess a CWP will no longer be required to first rid their vehicle of any self-defense firearms before driving onto school property to drop off or pick up their child. Parents of college-aged children will not have to travel for many miles with no self-defense firearm in the vehicle simply because they are dropping off or picking up their child from college.

This bill would also allow a CWP holder to carry a self-defense firearm into a restaurant that serves alcohol for consumption on the premises, but not into the bar area of the restaurant. If S. 347 passes, parents who possess a CWP will be able to take their family to dinner at a nice restaurant without fear of being attacked in a dark parking lot when walking to or from their car.

GrassRoots GunRights sees no ethical reason South Carolina law should treat CWP holders - a group which has proven itself to be filled with law-abiding citizens - as though they are suddenly just like criminals, unable to be trusted with a firearm, simply because the CWP holder takes his family into a nice restaurant or drives onto school property to drop off a child. Prohibiting the good guys from possessing the means to protect themselves and their families in any place where they have the right to be is simply wrong, and should not be tolerated.

GrassRoots GunRights strongly supports this bill.
