Greetings all,
I am trying to work up a load for my 256win mag. I have a 117g round nose that I hope to work up a load for deer.
The only data I can find is limited to 60g, 75g and 87g bullets.
If someone out there has some old reloading manuals from the 60's I am hoping they would have more data.
If not, where would be a good place to locate some of the old manuals?
Thanks,
Ray

Thanks,
I have decided not to try this load.
Now to find someone in need of 200rds of 117gr Hornady RN bullets.

.256Win mag? It was fist revolver cartridge. .357 Mag case neced down to .257 bullet. Twist 14". 117gr g
bullet shall to keyholes! Or do you have custom made barrel for T/C or some rifle like Marlin lever action rifle?
I think, you cant to find reloading data for 117 gr bullet for this obsolute caliber. The heavist bullet, I think is 87gr. I can also to be wrong?
Kauko.
www.gmdr.com./lewer/25...agtext.htm or via google:".256Win mag cartridge".

Thanks KW,
I have a Marlin Model 62 and I have dies to convert 357mag cases to 256win mag.
I am going to stick with the 87gr bullets. It was just an idea.
Thanks again,
Ray

I did some quick math and I think it would end up under 2000 fps. If that were the case you might find some cast lead loads that would work a la 30-40 krag. if your sticking w\87g's did anyone ever use aa1680 , I would think for velocity sake that may be it. it sure soups up the old .218 bee w\ 35g's

Padd, a friend here shoots a .25-06 for deer and hogs, I'll ask him if he's interested in the bullets. Give me an idea what you want for them.

I consulted a 1970 sierra and ackley's volume 2 and cart o the world 11thed nothing sorry. I remember seeing some cast lead loads in an old hodgdon manual if you ever get a flare up of that bug again. this disease sometimes reoccurs at odd times like at relatives weddings, long sermons. etc. anytime the mind seeks refuge from boredom.

Padd54, I looked in my manuals. No load data for 117gr slug for 256 win mag..They did list the 117 for a 25-35. It is a low pressure cart w/max of 38,000cups. The max cup for the 256 win mag is 43,000cups. If you have a chrony, I would use the start load for the 25-35 minus 2gr.then work up from there. The max mv for the 25-35 /w 117gr slug was 2200fps..The book says the 256 win mag is just a little faster than a 25-20..If ya want my data, email me or pm me...Hope this is helpfull...Dave

Thanks fireball,
I do have a chrony and will take you up on your offer.
I may just as well try a few loads and see what I can get.
Do you all think "nickel plated" cases would help with an increase of pressure?
Thanks again,
Ray

Very cool little cartridge! I had a TC contender barrel in this caliber but sold it for what ever reason...I cant remember.
Good luck with this adventure.

I an finding that the spire points won't allow me to stay within the max OAL.
Right now I am content with the 60g FN that I have found. But will keep looking for a little heavier bullet that I can use. I am hoping to find an 80-87g bullet that will aloww me to stay within the max OAL.
Thanks again for all the great responses.
Ray
