One of my favorite and most accurate guns I own. I have it in #1V chambered in .22-250. I have around 3500 rounds though mine.

I know people have their opinions about Ruger rifles in general (Me, i've never owned one i didn't like, but still prefer Winchester for a bolt actions) but as for a #1, i really think for the money you can't do better!

I've shot a Varminter in 22-250, a Standard in 338 (that i used to own), and a Sporter in 270....All of them with no smithing done, shot -1" @ 100 yards with factory Federal ammo. The thing i like the best though is when you are shooting from prone or a rest, you keep your trigger hand down insted of having to bring it up to lift the bolt.

If you are convinced you want one, it would be worth every dollar you spend!

beezer: the current issue of "Rifle" magazine has a superb article by John Barsness about the pros and cons of the Ruger No1 series. In that article you will find several easy ways to make the rifle more accurate and even how to perform a trigger job.

I have several and they are always my favorite to take hunting or varmint calling. Every one of them have become accurate with little or no tinkering. The overall length of the rifle attracts those that prefer compact rifles without compromising barrel length. The strength of the action exceeds the pressure ability of the brass --- its virtually indestructable.

And, of course, they are simply the best looking rifle you can buy.

Cool I have only had one #1, it was a Tropical in .458 Win Mag. I got it at a shooting range I worked at in the Miami area for $250. I was really surprised right after I bought it from the seller he came back in with 20 boxes of ammo and only 2 rounds were missing. That baby could shoot!!! Also it was one heck of a PIG gun. For some reason I never needed a second shot! Shocked

This is my third one , and it's a keeper .. I bought it new in 1978 ..375 Holland of course ..
Had one in 300 win and one in 338 win ..
Smaller calibers sometimes have the issue of vertical stringing .. But forearm can be bedded ..

If I get the ruger I have a problem with storage. Because of the very strict security restrictions here everything has to be locked in a gun safe. Mine is prety ful at the moment. and unless I take scopes off, ( which I don't want to the only way to get another rifle in is to invert one. Will this put too much strain on the b'r'l or other parts? I am thinking of my BSA 243 b'a.

I have a .243 #1 that will print 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards all day long. I have also had a #1 in 7mm Mag and my sister, who is left handed, used her 7mm Mag #1 to take her big horn sheep a couple of years ago.

I also agree, probably the best looking gun out there.

Cool I acrually store all of my rifles & shotguns barrel down. I was taught this by my Grandfather many years ago. When you have the barrel down any and all oils or solvents will not run into the action/trigger area also no matter how carefull you are insects and spiders just love to get into barrels and form their nests, there have been many rifles & shotguns ruined because no body checked the barrel only to find out a mud dauber or a spider plugged up the barrel. With the barrel down and resting on the pad there is no way for them to get into the barrel, it has never effected the accuracy of any of mine. IMO this is the best way to store them. Cool
