I had a blast yeterday afternoon and last night!! Razz
I, for the first time, casted 75 .458 bullets wieghing 547g, of which about 10% had to be culled. What a blast!! Party

I also made up a batch of lube for the bullets. Now it time to reload and shoot the product. Will let you know how it goes. I am shooting 45-70 in a 1874 Sharps replica from Pedersoli. Plan to shoot in the Silhouette game.

Which moulds are you using ??

I have 462560 Lyman 4 cav and 457132 Postell , my favs and two custom NEIs

Hey, well done Dusty. Casting bullets is a mix of frustration and satisfaction. I would sit down and cast up to 1000+ 150gn .357 SWC and 150gn .30 FN in one sitting.

A word of caution mate...ENSURE you use some sort of breathing apparatus for protection from breathing in the lead fumes. I use a Protector brand mask with two round filters for heavy metal fumes.

I look forward to seeing how they shoot for you mate.

I am too Vince!! I am still getting all the equipment together. I had problems getting the sights together. The first front sight was from Kelly. The problem is that the only set of apertures that fit the sight is Lyman 17A. There is only five round apertures in the set. I loved the sight, it is case colored and has a cam device for tightening in the dovetail. I ended up with a Balwin sight with a set of 10 apertures. That will do better for the silhouette game. Then I ran into troubles with the Hadley eyecup on the back site. I purchased the large eyecup with 15 peep sights to choose from, only to find out the eyecup was too large (it covered up the windage scale on the tang sight). So I ordered the smaller one, but I guess I clicked the wrong thread size, so now I am waiting for the right size to come in mail.

As soon as I shoot the sets I made (have made more since the first few), I will let you know. Have gone back to work so I don’t get out the range when I want too.

I don't know the designation of the Lyman moulds I am using. A friend of mine, who will be my spotter in the future, lent them to me until I decide which mould I want to purchase. The mould is producing a 547 grain on average with Wheel Weights.
