Note: minor rant of little consequence.
Some often use the word "recipe" when describing load data. What moron decided to use that word? When did this word begin to be used, as I can't find it in any of the older manuals or reference books?
Recipe, when used for food, is fine. It conjurs the vision of women in their kitchens fumbling around in the recipe box and sharing their special ones with koffee klatch friends. Recipe has a feminine connotation and its useage in reloading is far too politically correct. It is often the word of choice for those new to reloading and studiously avoided by experienced reloaders.
In Arizona, we were inundated with TV weather reporters that changed the name of summer thunderstorms to "monsoon" and tried to perpetrate the change of duststroms to "haboobs", although no one picked that one up. Gone are the words "waitress", "waiter" and "mailman", along with "garbage man" and hundreds of other perfectly adequate and descriptive words only to be replaced with words and titles more vague.
In the handloading clinics I operate, dismissal will occur if anyone starts babbling about "recipes"! Out, out, out.
Thanks for listening. I feel better now and will sleep well tonight.

I don't have a problem with "recipe." What I have a problem with is "caliber." They ask, what "caliber" should I buy. It used to be that caliber just meant bore diameter. Now, by stupid convention, it has come to mean a cartridge.
The cat is long gone out of the bag and I know this will never be turned around.

I agree ,but you forgot old people became ''senior citizens '' and the best term for handloaders is ''incurable and crazy shooters'' .Or is it cheapskate ?

Ah, the nuances of the perpetually changing English language. Some of these words, along with their meanings will go by the way-side, as did buggy whip manufacturers.
Who was it that sung that country song, that included the lyrics "When coke was soda" and "gay meant happy," or something to that nature.

And the real BIG guns are just 16 inch...I'll just use .45ACP. Everyone knows what I'm talkin'about...
5" 38 means the barrel is 38 calibers long (5" X 38 = 190" long)

While I understand and appreciate your disdain for the term, I do not find it an innaccurate description of the handloading process.
You have a list of ingredients and a set of instructions on how they should be combined to achieve the desired results. If you substitute an ingredient or leave a step out of the procedure or perform the step out of order, the finished product is not what you were supposed to get.
Not too far from what we do in the pharma business when we make drugs. We even sometimes call it cookbook chemistry when we are writing manufacturing procedures.

George Carlin did a whole bit about the way we've changed words over the years to make them more "P.C." It's pretty great, I'll look it up on youtube and stick it on here.
