If I had a company and it was legal here to CC I'd let my employees carry on the SOLE condition they open carry. Hiding it may be all well and good to get a surprise on a criminal thats robbing you but I think in a private place such as a workplace where you all work together and generally know alot about your co-workers (unless they are anti social I guess), or going to visit someone in their home that you are friends with or related to, I see no reason not to trust everyone else with the fact that you are carrying a firearm.

But thats just how I see it.

Vince,

I am quoting what was signed into law by the state legislature and govenor. I am not a lawyer so I msut use my own knowledge to interpet what was enacted. I agree with what you say about locking and hiring security guards, but I don't think that the owners that don't already have that type of security will be willing to spend the kind of money it would take to accomplish that level. I think they will not fight it until some idiot take them to court.

My vehicle is MY property. No one I’ve ever worked for, besides myself, has offered to provide protection for me to/from my place of work. I am all for allowing an employee to carry a weapon in his own vehicle but I can agree with restrictions on them carrying inside the company’s building, just as I would restrict who can carry in my home. I do think it’s short sighted to prevent legal CCW owners from carrying. Note the following incident.

As for “secure parking lots”… My employer’s two sites, a few miles apart, are fenced in. One has a guard on duty that monitors cameras showing the gate at the other building. A few weeks back a woman, working on a weekend at the plant with the guard, walked around a corner and found two masked men, one of whom pointed a gun at her. She was able to run away and call the maintenance people on shift and the police. The guard never knew what was going on until after the police showed up. They didn’t catch anyone and had the maintenance guys checking out the building. I told them that I’d do that for them, as long as I got to carry my 12 gauge riot gun!

I have a third reoccurring point I'd like to throw in.

Most people I know and I belive evryone here has no problem with CCW in general.

So why is it that so many are against certain co-workers with a CCW to carry at work ?
I don't think it's right for anyone to say he or she can't because ..................................
If the state issues it, then it should be valid anywhere in that state.

Again...It all depends who you are and your attitude as to whether I'll let you carry in my house. I would amagin that employers have the same problem and have just made a blanket rule...

Both of my bosses that I had over the enterum of my civilian employment had no problem with my gun handling, We hunted together, but I still could not carry on the job...

If you conceal your weapon and no one sees it - I figure no problem.

Later, if someone tries to car jack me, on the employer's property, and I shoot to protect myself - what happens?

I lose job, end of story !!! Sad

Now I know alot will say that if someone else can see your firearm, you didn't do enough to conceal it.
How many of you thought about the need to go to medical for a injury ?
Or what if you've passed out for what ever reason ?
Ever have anyone enter the restroom stall your already in ? laugh, but it does happen !!!
Anyone ever have a shirt torn off at work by a hungry piece of equipment ?

Vince,

I copied the article from a newsletter, I am not sure how the lawyers would interpet the points you write about. I suppose it will be taken to court by the ACLU for interpetation sometime in the future, or they will wait for the "messiah" to be elected then all h_ll will break lose.

Just to offer some info on the subject of guns at work. The insurance companies that insure the business require the employee regulations of no guns at the workplace. That reduces, like it or not, the companies exposure to suit because of wrongful death. We have to face one fact that the property owner, the company, has the right to determine work regulations. They do have an obligation to provide a safe workplace. Lets face the fact that not all gun owners are competent in combat situations and lack training in shoot don't shoot situations. The employer has to protect the company from suits in such situations. It is a darned if you do or darned if you don't situation but they have to comply with the insurance companies demands regarding guns in the workplace. If they fail to prohibit guns in the workplace the insurance companies will drop them like a hot rock if there is a claim and an employee had a gun on the property in violation of workplace rules.
It is a complex issue and not everyone can be made happy about it. The deal about having a gun in your car is of little value if you have to run out to your car before saving your life. If I made it to the car I would crank it and get out of Dodge and call for help. When bullets fly at the workplace (post office) it is every man/woman for themselves until help arrives and common sense prevails. It's like living in a big city that is 20 feet below sea level and has levies all around it and here comes a hurricane that floods the city. The city tells everyone before hand to evacuate yet those hard heads that fail to do so complain when someone does not save them and their property. You have a responsibility to take your own safety into your own hands. It is amazing how fast feet or a fast vehicle can save you, or just concealing yourself. That is not cowardly, just a common sense method of saving your rear end.

I'm not as concerned about protecting myself on company property as I am being able to protect myself between there and home. At one of our locations you have to drive slow the last couple hundred yards to the gate so you won't hit any of the drunks, prostitutes or others standing in the street. So far no company I've worked for has provided a security escort for my trip to and from work.

My job requires that I sometimes have to do environmental inspections of properties on the wrong side of the tracks. To avoid having to shoot some punk, I do my inspections early in the mornings. The riff-raff rairly get up before the crack of noon..........and yes, I'm packing, while on the job, and not afraid to use it to protect myself.

I'm retired (don't you just love it ROFL )...But I'm packin' right now to protect myself from you guys...

Not totally true...I am open carrying my Firestar right now as I make runs up to the barn and around the property. Today I just got back from my range just outside my back door. Put 150 rounds down range so I would have somthing to do this evening (Prep and reload).........Maybe I had better keep on carrying it to protect myself from you guys after all... Very Happy

At least my new Kimber is broke in and proofed... Very Happy
