This happened in Utah, too.
We had a property dispute when we fenced our yards. I was lucky, I only had one corner of it.

Our "neighbor" was this uptight divorcee/schoolteacher, and the previous owners had extended their back yards over the property lines of lots on the next street. Her back yard extended into one neighbor's property line by about 30 feet, and her side yard extended into another neighbor's yard 6-8 feet. We started to put in the fence along the property lines, and she made things so misearable, ranting and all . She had her uncle come out and tell us we really had no right to the land where her property had spread out, because they were there first.

Well, we finally got sick of it, told her to hire an attorney, and let's go to war. We rented the post hole digger tractor, and dug the holes, wiping out her sprinkler system , which was in my neighbor's yard. She was not happy.

There was a small peach tree planted right on the property line behind the neighbor whose land she took the most of, and he offered to move it for her. WHEREVER she wanted. She would have none of it, so, he built a 6 X6 foot jog in the fence, which surrounded the tree, and left her with a small additional area. I guess she figured it was a moral victory , or something.

People can sure get strange.

Guess it happens everywhere. When I got ready to put a fence up several years ago, to keep the neighbors' pets, etc out and mine in, I found that one neighbor had deliberately dug up one of the corner markers. I marked it, put up my fence and more or less dared them to complain. Luckily they didn't cause a hassle. They do throw trash over the fence into my yard on occasion, and it just gets thrown back.

A friend of mine had to put up a line of posts along his property line to keep his neighbor from DRIVING through his yard. THe neighbor would come up my friend's driveway and then cut through his yard to park beside his own, so he wouldn' have to back up. Now we're talking 175-200' between driveways! The neighbor actually removed a post, at which time my buddy got the sherriff's dept. involved. He won that round and is waiting for the next...

CA seems to hunt. Drives and 'walk & stalk' seem common for deer & elk. In the desert, tree stands would be tough. Don't know about legality of tree stands but, have only known one person that used a portable tree stand. Have never seen a constructed tree stand. Stories abound concerning easterners that come west for a hunt and go home after a half day of tramping the high desert mountains. Very Happy

The CA mountains have a lot of survey problems. When the state hired a surveyor to mark the NE corner of the state he missed by a half mile or so. Smile

The Supreme Court settled that issue by declaring that where the marker was, would be the corner of CA, NV & OR.

The property lines of my place don't run N-S & E-W. They are off by 1.2 degrees or so even though the local section corner marker is one corner of my property. This is all tied to the fact that most property in this area originated as mining claims in the 1800's that were subsequently patented and passed to private ownership. Hence, the original property lines were established by a drunk miner driving stakes in the ground and parcels run at any angle you can think of. Very Happy
