Shot a very healthy 7 pt. (2x3 Western count) with my Knight .50 cal @ 0930 this past Saturday. Meat! Very Happy Gotta have some backstrap!!
Will wait on a big one for #2.

Load was 110 grains of Pyrodex RS behind a Harvester 330 gr .45 sabot. Chrony'd at 1590.

Shot was broadside, 40 yds, open sights from my treestand. Center punched the heart. 35 yd recovery.

Centerfire season opens next weekend. 2 buck/10 doe limit.

Gotta love hunting with Smokepoles!

I'm really feeling withdrawls myself... last year I didnt draw a general season muzzleloader tag and this year I drew a rifle deer tag in a very coveted area. That means 2 years without hunting with a frontstuffer... makes me sad.

Its fun to hear others using them though and I have to admit I am jealous you guys get as many deer tags as you do. Mule deer just arent prolific with respect to the droughts, diminishing winter range and predators we have out here. 2 buck 10 doe limit... thats just amazing.

Way to go Sako! Was planning to head to MD to use mine for the opener this Thursday but things fell through. Still hoping to be in your neck of the woods later this fall. Might as well get a GA lic. for the year. I'll be down that way for the 1st week of April with my brother's buddies. They are staying at a place for a week to hunt hogs and ? do some fishing.

Yeah Dallan, I like my smokepoles, too. Been shooting them for 14 years now.
Understand on the seasons and limits being so different. Growing up in Orgeon (still go back when I can!), I was used to 1 deer/ 1 elk tag per year. Had to choose our weapon as well (after '78 I think..) Moved back to the SE in the 80's with my job and could not believe the season lengths and limits on whitetails.

Of course, the deer are smaller.

2 bucks and 10 does/year is very liberal here in GA. While I'm sure I could dust 10 does, I won't. Maybe one or two later on. Season lasts till the middle of January. Lotsa deer. And no, I don't dog hunt.

Of course, if ya think 2/10 is liberal, check out zone 11 of South Carolina. I used to hunt there---30 min from the house.

The season is Aug 15-Jan 2. On private land, buck only, no limit (2 inch spike or better) with 17 doe/antlerless days (2 per day). Lots and lotsa deer.

Thanks RPM,
Sorry to hear your hunt fell through in MD. From the looks of things, it should be a good year in Ga.

ONLY 2/10 limit ?? Sheesh here between bow and gun works out to about 305 or so ( last year's figures ) .. Bow season is Oct15-Jan31 , limit one buck and one doe per day , gun runs Nov24-Jan31 , limit in my area is one each per day , so if your good enuff , from Nov 24-Jan31 , you can Legally take four per day ..

Very Happy I'm heading home to Minnesota on the 17th of November and will be there for the first 5 days of the Muzzleloading season that begins on the 26th.

Didn't get one here in NC during the season but will before the regular season ends. So many areas/counties have such restrictions on centerfire rifles that muzzleloaders, shotguns and handguns are the way to go. You have to be 5feet up in this county, 8 feet in the joining and 10 feet in another, you can't shoot from the ground if you have one show itself when you are coming or going. Right now is the first week and the dogs are being used everyday. I'll wait till a bit later to go back out, I'd rather shoot the dogs!!! I'll stop here or I'll get on a rant!!!

Anyway, on my day out during the ML season all I got was a 4.5' timber rattler! Didn't see him and he was @ 1' away from my right leg, I'm glad it was very cool as he was sluggish until I dropped my stand on top of him. I then let my SRK from Cold Steel introduce itself to him as he tried to get out from under the stand. I have to admit, rattle snake is pretty tasty!! Like I've said and told many, I've eaten a lot of diffrent things. Now if I could just figure out a way to fillet one of them? I thought fish were boney, ha they don't hold a candle to a snake!!! Insane Shocked

Flint, November 26th, I guess that's early enough that you (hopefully) won't need the emergency cold weather gear in your trunk! Was there in Feb. sometime back. Temps at night were running 50-60 degrees below. Shocked Dry cold or not, that's cold. At least I wasn't out in it.
