Embarassed

Ahum... I thought I am the only dummy who got his bullet stuck, thats why I didnt tell ya.

Seriously, what I do is to follow the advices from all you good people here.

The main ingredient is WD40 and patience.

You wouldn't believe how many times I want to just drill the damned bullet out, or just knock it out forcibly with a fitting dowel.
But at the end, I just grin and bear it and let the oil do its work.
As I remember, the sequences are as follow:
Day 0
- Fill the barrel with WD40 from breech end
- Plug the barrel with a dowel with rubber rings on it in the chamber area and sort of create some pressure on the oil by rigging a few rubber bands to the dowel.
- Stand the barrel muzzle down on a tin can

Day 5
checked the other end of the barrel and notice some slight smear of oil passed through the bullet. Add a bit of oil and re pressurize the barrel by adding a few more rubber bands

Day 8
Noticed that the dowel "sinks" onto the breech - checked and saw that around the bullet there are DEFINITELY droplets of oil.
The tin can on the muzzle definitely have a layer of oil on it.
Add oil and again re-pressurise.

Day 10 or was it 11?
The "D" day...
Using a dowel (brass .300 dia) I push the bullet from breech end.
I thought I would tap the rod with a mallet once its connected, but first, I would give it a hard shove just for luck.
Wouldnt you know.. I am lucky.. I could feel the bullet move not very far though..
so after about 50 - 10mm of movement, I ended up tapping it our all the way.

It took over a week but I am happy..

I use a bore light and peers into the barrel -
As far as I could see, there is no mark on it. Very Happy

So there Laughing

Well done mate...that is awesome.

Once again, the collective knowledge and experience of the HuntingNut "family" came through. Congratulations to all for the assistance and good advice given to our mate Gelan.

Cheers, Vince

Yeah, that's a LOL been-there-done-that for sure.

Your patience paid off big time: no damage was done.

Thanks Gelan! I got my first bullet stuck in a barrel just a couple months ago, in a 4" .357 Mag revolver. It was a .38 Spec loaded without powder. Luckily it was a cast bullet and was easily tapped out using a plastic coated electrical screw driver and 4 oz. hammer.

Oh I have done the same on pistols many many times..

Because in Oz pistols are NOT weapon or hunting equipment,
most of us are using lead cast instead of jacketed stuff.
Added to that, what usually happen is when the auto powder thrower on the progressive didnt throw powder for any reason at all, the only propellant is the primer. And because of that, the bullet only travel a very short distance down the barrel.
I usually knock them out using a special dowel I have on my gun bag.. Actually its a muzzle loader bullet ram.

OTOH, this is the FIRST time I got a jacket bullet stuck and the first stuck on a rifle.
Thats why I sorta panicked..

good to hear life is back to normal for ya... yeah when ya blackpowder shoot, a stuck bullet is like sunshine, it happens.... a friend of mine had a 38/357 with a 4 inch barrel primer only get stuck right between the cylinder and the barrel, jammed the cyl. closed with a live round still in it, wanna talk about fun getting that one out.. he handed it to the kid he didnt like with a dowel and he tapped it out slow and light back into the chamber, then open and removed from there..

Gelan -

Did you test out the barrel yet to see if the famed Whisper accuracy suffered from this unfortunate set of circumstances?

My bad.. since the ill fated demonstration day, I haven't yet to shoot the Whisper.
I removed the scope during the sweating time and have not yet replace it and zero it properly..
Part of the reason is that I am way way too busy with work in the day time and there are no indoor range here about.

Anyhow, everything sorta works together, and without bore microscope I cant tell the difference.
Even if it does, I reckon I could lap it and adjust the cast bullet diameter accordingly.
No more jacketed stuff for this baby.. Dont need it anyway for velocity at about 1000fps.
