I have been pretty quiet for about three weeks because the wife and I have been in the process of buying a small farm. Taking after Bushy, heading for the tall timber.

I have been looking for a place that fit our wants for about 6 years and finally found it. It was dear as is the dirt around here, but it was affordable.
Best,
Ed

Ed,

I've lived in the country my whole life and I couldn't imagine living any other way. I think it promotes sanity. Congratulations on your find and I wish you luck in your endeavors. My suggestion is to become as self sufficient as you can. Nothing gives greater satisfaction than to look back at your day and see your accomplishments; sit on your veranda with a glass of iced tea and watch livestock grazing, or raise your own food.

Cary

Thanks Guys.
This place I bought was owned by a buddy of mine. I have known him for 30 years. He owned a 1/4 section and sold me part of that. The good news is that he and I both have use of the entire quarter section by agreement. So he sold a part, but still has it all, in a way. We both have a great neighbor that we can get along with. It is a win-win situation.

I grew up on a small cattle ranch in South Florida, on Lake Okachobee, three miles south of Pahokee. I learned how to drive a jeep pulling the feed trailer at 9 and was mowing pastures with a Ford tractor two years before that. I started driving a Farmall tractor when I could sit on my grandfather's lap. So I am going back to the land and my roots.
Best,
Ed

I'm over in Pace, we are running out of land around here and they ain't making any more.

Congratulations Swampy. Nothin' like gettin' back to grass roots level...literally.

I have purchased my retirement place...about 900 metres small. Just enough room on the block to fit a house with a double garage and my Coleman Campervan. I tried to talk my missus into a couple of hundred acres, but she wouldn't be in it. If I had my way I'd have 100,000 acres and put my house right in the middle of it.

Enjoy your property mate.

Cheers, Vince

Being the owner of 147 acres, I am thinking that in order to really be on your own you need to have at least 640 acres.
