I'm using Montana Extreme 50 BMG, (It has a new name now ??) It beats anything I have ever used and that about everything mentioned here and more including Butches Bore Shine.
It beats the socks off Sweets and not dangerous to the bore like Sweets. Works fast and gets all the burned powder and copper out. You do have to use it outside, perfect for Demetri at the range, because the fumes are eye openers and makes Sweets smell like ladies perfume.

Wilst all of you are hackin' and yackin' on the best bore cleaners I've just run down my ammo supply again, through barrels I've forgotten to clean again....but they've had the Ultra Bore Coat treatment so cleaning ain't much more than a shot brake cleaner and a couple of patches sans any brushes.

For those who hate fouling as much as they hate cleaning but refuse to give up all that shootin'....Ultra Bore Coat it.

Montana Extreme, Sweets and CR10 from Barnes are top sellers for copper fouling removal in our store. Each brand has their following and they all seem to be effective. OTOH, powder fouling is far easier to remove and most any brand will do an excellent job.

IMO, if some enterprising individual could find a way to market a men's cologne that smelled like Hoppes #9, they would be instant millionaires. Hell, even Bushy might buy a bottle. Or, how about a Hoppes #9 diesel additive?

It always amazes me that for all the bore cleaners out there Hoppe's is the most well known...The only one that evokes comments on it's fragrence. Without the smell of Hoppe's #9 on a gun it just isn't a gun. Hoppe's and guns just go together. Wonder why that is???? And yes I do put a dab behind each ear...It really turns the ladies heads...

Most serious shooters know Hoppes #9 won't cut copper. Heck it even says on the bottle it's only a plastic and powder fouling remover. It'd be great in Grand Dad's old model 12 quail gun.

Why drive a rifle barrel that fouls bad enough to NEED the best fouling remover anyway. Good barrels are easy....

There is #9 and #9 Benchrest, two different formulations with two slightly overlapping purposes. Benchrest #9 does indeed cut copper and it just might get those purple kool aid stains out, too.

If the desired end result is the removal of fouling copper and powder residue, often two specialized products will speed the process. All barrels eventually accumulate enough copper fouling to require removal for restored accuracy, however, barrels foul at different rates. I've had some rifles with barrels fouled enough to affect accuracy after less than 20 rounds and others that go over 100 rounds before accuracy deterioration is noted. Bore scopes give us a clue as to why; quick fouling barrels are often rougher, showing tears in the lands from the rifling process and not being, in general, as smooth.

Such barrels can be hand lapped to smooth them or they can be hot lapped with any number of kits that enable the lapping to be done while shooting some rounds. Usually the results are barrels that willl stay accurate longer before requiring maintenance.

I dont think I've ever went to a store that had any sort of gun cleaning supplies that didnt have Hoppes #9.

I'm with you totally Joe. Nothing better than Sweets for removing copper fouling. The snipers in the aussie Army use it, as does our shooting team and that in its own right is as good a recommendation as I would ever want.

Like Bushy's favourite, Sweets isn't something that you take a BIG whiff of....its full of ammonia.

I've never been NOT able to pick up a bottle of Hoppes #9 back when I was still using it at any store that sold firearm cleaning products thats a fact. But I could have went to a store not needed and therefor not look hence why "I don't think".

Isn't Hoppes #9 just a powder solvent? It doesn't actually remove copper fouling does it?
