The local gun shop has several Nagant 7.62x54R rifles for $99(US). I know they were made all over Europe, and quality control was almost non-existent. These things are FUGLY, "Throw Away Boat Paddles" is probably too eloquent for them. The question is:

For 100 bucks, should I grab one and use it to play with? The triggers seem decent, they point nicely, and it is a historical chambering. I don't expect any return on my investment, other than a chance to put some lead downrange.

Thoughts??

To tell you the truth, my neighbor just bought one 2 weeks ago. He has done quite a bit of work to the trigger, and it breaks pretty lightly now. It's a pity that he can't shoot worth a damn, because it's a nice shooting rifle. He paid $89 for it, and got his pick of about 5 of them in the store.

These are probably model 1981/30 rifles and I have bought several of them. Try to find one with a decent bore. They are fun to shoot. One of these days they will be gone because they have not been made for half a century. All the best...

Only real issue with the Mosin's in my opinion is lack of a properly working safety.

Other then that I hear good things about them as they are cheap to buy here too and many people have bought them as budget hunting rifles. Smile

Dimitri,
The safety on an 1891/30 works fine and can be manipulated while wearing gloves. It is a bit crude, but effective. All the best...
