My brother just sent me this (and no, he's not a member). Mad

PETA’s New Comic for Kids: Taking Aim at Dads Who Fish

Most people wouldn’t expect PETA activists to visit the local fishing hole or hang out in front of tackle shops at fishing tournaments, but starting on September 24, Fish Amnesty Day, activists will take to the water with their sights on dads who are teaching their kids to abuse animals.

PETA’s pro-fish leaflet reminds fishers and their families that fish feel pain and fear when they are impaled in the mouth and ripped from their underwater homes and that they deserve to be treated with kindness, just like all animals.

Before they are desensitized to the suffering of animals, PETA aims to help kids see the violent bloody truth behind their fathers’ outdoor pastime.

Children will read: “Imagine that a man dangles a piece of candy in front of you. ... As you grab the candy, a huge metal hook stabs through your hand and you’re ripped off the ground. You fight to get away, but it doesn’t do any good... That would be an awful trick to play on someone, wouldn’t it?”

Agreed.

Its expecially ironic when Peta themselves euthenize so many animals they try to rescue.

I'm all for ethical treatment of animals but that doesnt mean you cant hunt and utilize them for food. Fish tastes too darn good to give up.

You know DallanC in talking about euthenzing i guess the HSUS (humane society ot the US) is not any better either because thay have become as extreme as PETA against hunters and hunting. But the thing that gets me the most, the Humane Societies Animal Shelters will euthenize every (male mostly) cat and dog that sprays regardless of temperament, and even if the males aren't fixed, they don't feel the 'need' to neuter the animal to stop spraying because it's not "Cost Effective" (policy of theirs when i was in school and had to work there for credit. And no, i didn't complete the class because of my views and their BS opinions and policy!)! Mad

HSUS isn't becoming as extreme as PETA, HSUS has been as extreme as PETA for a LOOOOOONG time.

We have just had an invasion of 'People Eating Tasty Animals' (love that) over here, they are harassing diners going into KFC (but for all the wrong reasons - we don't call it Kentucky Fried Rat for nothing) by shoving leaflets at them and booing them. (Selected outlets only) Once I find out where they are appearing I think I shall have a rummage in my cat trays and find a few goodies to fling at them.
As to the magazine article about hooking children, I can live with that - might be fun. At least it would teach them not to accept sweets from strangers! Smile

I always chuckle to myself when I remember the article I read about the PETA protester in a fish suit on a corner. 2 local radio DJs saw him from the station and went to the opposite corner and had a fish fry.

This is my first post. I am a voting Member-at Large in a local chapter of the Oregon Hunters Association. These anti's are going after nationwide hunting to get it stopped. I urge you all to join a local hunting organization to protect your rights, get involved and let your voice be heard on issues to include contacting your state wildlife departments.

Smile First off Welcome to the site. Your comment is right on, we need to band together and fight these *(**%^%%**&^ ijots! There is a fight starting now that would limit the minum age for Hunting to be 18. It seems that the HSUS I believe thinks that teaching our children to hunt will make them more prone toward being cruel to animals and will cause them to torture them. Somebody git them a BRAIN!!!! Insane Anyway again glad to see you here and see ya around the site. Flint54 Cheers

I find it very interesting that PETA is suppose to be all about humane treatment of animals yet they refuse to accept the fact that any wild animal taken by a hunter probably has the most humane end of life than any other wild animal. Ask any F&G person how most deer, rabbits, pheasants, etc die. Usually starving or dying while being eaten.
They are NUTS

And let us not forget the true meaning to what the HSUS and PETA claim...Fair and 'ETHICAL' treatment? I have also heard them claim to be 'HUMANE'?
Well, now let us take a look at their claim by defination....

Ethical: involving or expressing moral approval or disapproval

Humane: marked by compassion, sympathy, or consideration for humans or animals

Hmmmmmmm... Rant ..thruogh looking at past as well as present literature, involvment in political issues and things that draw media attention.....Where i'd like to know, does ANY Ethical, Humane, or Moral background show for what they do and support? Maybe by putting 'YOUNG' animals to sleep for a 'Cost Effective' matter like i stated before.....Or...By the attempt to demolish our 'YOUNG' (law abiding) hunters with propaganda so their rights are stripped away?

Sorry....got carried away for a second. Neutral But i do guarantee my daughters will be harvesting their first deer when they turn 12 (which is Michigans current supervised age of consent to hunt)!

Thanks for listening

Hi

PETA people make a pretty common mistake: The confuse both ETHICAL and HUMANE with AESTHETIC.

They think that a PRETTY death is the same as a HUMANE death, and have this image of vegetarian wolves, bobcats and cougars living peacefully alongside the deer, rabbits and squirrels in blissfull harmony.

A few years ago, the State on Indiana proposed opening the Brown County State Forest to a limited hunt because of a severe overpopulation of deer. Fish and Wildlife specialists said that there wasn't enough food available in the forest for a population HALF the current size, and saw a hunt as a good way to solve the overpopulation.

MAN, was there an uproar around here! Bloomington, Indiana, is a college campus town (Indiana University), and a lot of the popluation could be considered, "liberal."

There's also a very strong PETA group telling them how things should be.

I asked several of these guys, if there's only enough food available for LESS THAN HALF of the population, were they willing to let ALL the deer starve to death, because food doesn't work like a bank loan - you have to have it constantly, and if ALL the deer ate ALL the food in first half of the winter, ALL the deer would starve in the second half of the winter.

"Well," they responded, "someone can buy bales of hay, and put it out for the deer!" (NOTE: VERY FEW of these guys pay the taxes that, "someone," would have to PAY for the hay, either...)

"That'll be nice," I responded, "then at least they'll starve to death with full stomachs."

Everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY gave me astonished looks.

"Deer, if I remember correctly," I went on, "are BROWSERS, not GRAZERS. They live on TREES, not GRASS. During the winter, they strip young trees of branch tips, twigs and bark. When they run out of that, they attack larger trees and knock off bark to get to sub-bark, and they dig through the snow to get to the tender shoots and roots of plants. They can't DIGEST hay."

After a momen, one of them said, kind of embarrased, "I did not know that."

"So," I said, "either we CUT BACK on the number of deer, or we lose ALL the deer, and the deer pretty much WRECK the State Forest in trying to survive the winter. Letting hunters take SOME of the deer in a controlled hunt leaves us with a healthy, maintainable deer population. What's YOUR solution?"

No one had any other ideas. Neither did I.

(Please correct me if I'm wrong, here, by the way. That was the best of my knowledge at the time.)

ANYHOW: I think that it's not a TREATMENT thing. It's a CONTROLL thing. PETA is more interested in CONTROLLING how OTHER PEOPLE treat animals, and have very little interest in the animals themselves.

I'd like to mention, here, that the PETA administration destroys EVERY domestic animal that comes into its hands. Public records show that they have (as of my last reading) referred NONE of the animals that folks send to them to adoption agencies, pounds, or no-kill shelters. Pets check in and they don't check out. There was even one fairly large fuss over the fact that one branch was dumping dead animals in dumpsters owned or rented by other companies around the town. Theft of services is apparently ethical.

It's Ok, though, as long as nobody actually SEES it, it's ETHICAL.

If they cared about the ANIMALS, you'd think they'd FIND OUT stuff about them, and the FIRST thing they should learn is that animals exist in a balance, and when people interfere with that balance by putting up high fences and killing off predators, then those same people are RESPONSIBLE for MAINTAINING the balance.

...even if it's NOT very pretty.

I think PETA and the HSUS do a BIG disservice to animals in general. Their actions reflect on the local Animal Shelters which at least where I am, do good work and stay out of hunting and other political issues. If I support such, I make sure the local shelters get my $, they are doing the best they can with the problem of stray animals and pets.

Where I live, we are OVERRRUN with wildlife and hunting is a necessity to help control the situation. We can't even have a flower on the back porch let alone a garden for the deer eating everything in sight.

The "Great AL"...You are right to a point. However, and don't tell peta this, deer can consume alphalfa as it is a broad leaf plant. Grasses are out. they will starve with a full belly IF they would eat the hay.

BTW...peta wants me to let my horses go as they were meant to be free. Has anyone ever hit an elk using their car? There are almost as many horses in this country as cars. Believe me... I'm sorry, but Cutter would not know what to do with his freedom except to look for a human to feed him or eat the neighbor's lawn and roses...

Delboy...Glad you liked it...Wish I could take the credit for that, but I can't. My hunting partner coined it...
