Having watched Democrat and Republican presidential hopeful meet and debate the issues of the day, their transparency is no more obvious than the lack of comprehensive statements on the major issue of the day -- the economy. They haven't adequately addressed why America is the biggest debtor nation in the world or the needed remedies to reverse what has been a fault of Congress and the Presidency for several administrations. I am disappointed and somewhat apprehensive about the consequences of continued neglect.
Saudi Arabia and China hold several trillions of dollars of US currency. Whereas they used to purchase T Bills, they are now concerned about the falling value of the dollar and are trying to buy up more and more of America, our industries, our resources, our technology. And, they are succeeding either by direct investments or by proxy purchases.
The economy is our boiler room. It creats the resources needed to defend us from our enemies, hostile or economic. Left unchecked, it is a formula for disaster and we become hostage to the threat on a daily basis. Regretably, no front running first tier candidate has forcefully addressed the issue.
Jobs continue to go overseas through outsourcing. Our raw resources continue to be exported so rapidly that the homeland demand for the same items drives prices up exponentially (copper, steel, concret, lumber) and we do nothing. Nothing.
The 2nd Ammendment wasn't only about militias to defend the country against the foreign enemy, but, also the enemy within. How far can the elasticity of the American economy stretch before crossing the breaking point?
I post this in frustration, admittedly, but in the hopes that more learned minds can offer good responses and good suggestions. Any takers?

Don't feel bad about your post Handloader.
I feel the same way about the candidates.
Next to Ronald Reagan, these Candidates look like Pigmies.
I won't vote for any of the Democrats, but the Republicans don't have anything to offer either.
Maybe I will give Bushy a write in vote.

The future isn't looking very bright is it . The Economy is killing me I was laid off last friday. I do resd. heating and air and most co.s are slow due to low sales in new construction, it's a very scary time for me. Unemployment is a help but no where near enough for my daughter and I. I have posted my resume to various companys and have a interveiw today I hope my luck improves. I don't think the economy is going to get better any time soon though

Bushy you would be suprised at who could be elected. Every American should at least once in their life run for public office and see the elephant.
Joe, I am told by my bankers that this phony recession could last two more years. My archetect clients say they now only have cleen up work on their boards, no new plans at all. So two years might be right. But in truth, there is no reason for what is going on, except fear and a bunch of politician doom spreaders. What exactly is so bad about our economy? This is not like 81 when Mr. Carter crushed the economy with 23% interest rates. I owned a lumber company at that time, decided to close the doors. Suggest you get your best face out of the closet and go looking for a job, face to face. Around here the HVAC repair folks are very busy and looking for employees, give the repair folks a try. Most folks with a trade skill are employable all the time.
As to the candidates, I am going to vote for Fred next week. I do not think anyone is real interested in why, but let's just say you need to listen less, then read and think before you vote. I am a Democrat who changed parties, after getting heart sick over the deceit and lies. Today, I would not support or vote for a Democrat were they the only candidate for dog catcher or for president. I would rather vote for a purple butt baboon than Hillry or O'Bama.

I will Pray for you to get a job Joe.
I worked in the Iron Mines all of my life, and was laid off.
It is a scary thing. Judy was going to be laid off as a teacher in the Ely Schools.
We moved to Forest Lake, and I got a job as a Grader Man for a construction company, and Judy was hired at the Forest Lake School Dist.
I then realized that Construction was a young bucks game, and retrained as a Cabinet Maker.
Don't worry Joe.
Look hard, and Pray hard, and everything will be OK.

Hang in there Big Guy...my thoughts are with you and your daughter mate. I know how you feel ... when I was medically discharged from the Army I found that I was suddenly too old to be of any use to the work force. Luckily my pension brings in about AUD$41k a year, so I am able to survive ok.

This is a excellent suggestion Swampy. Face to face...or cold calling...give you the opportunity to display your skills and your personality instead of someone making a decision off a piece of paper.

Hm, I'm with you on this one Bushy....very strange indeed.
Tracker....I am getting more than a little concerned with your thoughts on this one mate.
Cheers, Vince

Joe,
Hope you get a job soon! Come summer there will be work, plenty of A/C's will die out and need repair especially in the South!
A face to face for a job will probably be better then a letter resume in my opinion as well. When looking after college I applied/sent resumes to 20 some odd companies, only 2 responded, and one (the one I'm at now) was a face to face.
By the way may not directly apply to what you were doing but repair of fridges and the like may be easy enough for you to do and may give you another option for job hunting. Cause I'm thinking AC and refrigeration is similar in theory/operation.
Dimitri

I would like to thank everyone for there thoughts . I went to a interveiw yesterday that I thought went very well . They have contracts with shopping malls in the area so it would get me out of the residential market witch would be great he is suppose to call me today . If this one doesen't pan out I am getting responces from my resume so there will be " face to face " meetings I agree thats the best way. Again thank you for your thoughts It's pretty cool to get so much suport from my friends here .
Joe

Joe, our prayers go with you and your daughter!
Now, on the economy, I fail to see a major problem outside of political hype. My wife and I run a couple of businesses and the one business is strictly dpendent on people have extra money to spend for items they do not need. We have had a good year and are doing well. In a recession I would be doing virtually nothing!! However I also agree that we need to control our debt and foreign invenstments!!
Gotta run!

Face it, the media controls the economy far more than any govt could hope to. If the media says the economy is bad then people stop spending money, making it bad. If they say its good the opposite happens. And I see so many conflicting reports in the media that I've long since quit believing them.
Joe, good luck! Any big hospitals up your way? Lots of HVAC maintenance there. That is one business that we can be sure won't be moving to China or Central America.
