I haven't heard anything on the 770 yet so I can't help ya there. But I had a 710 and that's what the 770 replaced, I heard that the 710's where having trouble jamming and shaving lead after a couple boxes of shells. I had shot about 5 boxes through mine and never had any trouble but decided to trade it for a Howa 1500 before anything showed up. I belive that they were supposed to have fixed all the problems with the 770. Have fun trying to wear the barrel out.

Welcome to the forums! Howdy

Go to agree with HuntHard, the 770 replaced the 710 and was to fix the problems/complaints people had about the 710.

At that price its hard to beat. Smile

Dimitri

Yup, better to have one less expensive gun rather than no gun. Sounds to me like you got a good deal. An all around rifle with a included scope for $369......yeah, I guess you did all right.

Overall I'm not at all impressed with the Reminton 770. I'd much prefer a Stevens for less $$$ or Savage for the same or slightly more $$$.

For that matter, most of my rifles have been purchased used and, sans scope, all cost under $369. These used rifles include a Remington M700 BDL, several Ruger M77's and three Marlin leverguns. One of the Rugers came with a 4x Leupold scope for $400. All came in great condition, all shoot very well and all are preferable to a Remington 770.

What don't I like about the 770? No need to look any further than the press-fit rather than screwed-in barrel, which is an absolute show stopper for me.

A Bushnell 3x9 is the kind I take off immediately - used a Bushnell Sportview 3x9 for 20 years and never did like the way it worked in low light situations. These days I use a lot of used Leupolds, a number of which I've paid only $100 for. I have a Bushnell 3x9 sitting in my safe that came on a used Marlin 336CS in .30-30, $225 for the combination. That Bushnell will never go on one of my rifles but rather will get traded away at a gun show with some other stuff I have no use for.

Not saying this to offend, but since you asked I assume you wanted an honest answer.

I know that the gun shops I visit did not stock the Remington Model 710 and will not stock the Model 770. For the same money, I would rather buy an excellent used Model 700. All the best...
Gil
