I've been looking at some of the new bolt action production rifles and came to the conclusion that there aren't that many made in the USA. Ruger, Savage, Weatherby and Remington are about it. Kimber can fit this category, but even they consider themselves semi-custom. Browning are made in Japan, CZ in the Czech Republic, Tikka in Finland. Am I missing a few?

Barrett's bolt action 50BMG's (And that new 40 something or another caliber round) are "production" guns.

The current economic reality is that a lot of rifles made in America at this time may end up being made off shore. I believe the F.N. commercial Mausers from Belgium were probably the best bolt action rifles ever made. Winchester firearms may be a brand that ends up being made overseas. Someday, Remington may follow suit. I am not too concerned about where a firearm is made as long as it is a quality gun offered at an affordable price. Take care...

I don't think Remington has a need to offshore. And I don't think as a company they can afford to offshore.

Their rifles are plenty cheap already being made here. Don't think judging by the costs of Chinese firearms coming in they will really see a benifit from going offshore, but thats just me.

I think that you will find that Weatherby are made in Japan...in the same factory as the HOWA.

Nothing wrong with that though...one thing I will give the Japanese is they have a good work ethic and produce quality goods these days. My Weatherby Vanguard will outshoot me 8 days a week. Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

Pumpkinslinger,
You are correct about Winchester Model 70s being made in South Carolina in 2008. The M.S.R.P. is around $1,000.00 per rifle. I wish them well. The company that is making them is part of F.N. in Belgium. Take care...
