Hi,

I've used the older Barnes X bullet in the past and they worked pretty good on deer and elk. I wasn't real impressed with the accuracy or how quickly they copper fouled my barrel. Once the bullet hit meat, they worked great. I just finished working up loads for a friends Weatherby 337/378 and was really suprised by how well the 225gr TSX shot. Three shots into 7/16" at 200 yds. Five shots into 3/4" at 200 yds and no copper fouling after 45 shots. I also shot the 250gr Nosler Partions and the 230gr CT Failsafes. These both shot 1 1/2" to 2" at 200 yds. Not bad for a hunting bullet. I was sure suprised to see how well the 225gr TSX shot against these other fine bullets.

Jesse thinks I'm a god for getting his big cannon to shoot like that. We tried four powders and three bullets before we found the magic number. He is going to Africa soon so I hope this load will work well hor him. If that 225gr TSX won't take what he is after, we have a problem!

I was wondering if anyone else has had any experience with the TSX bullets? After seeing how these bullets shot, I'm going to try them in some of the other calibers I load for.

I'm glad to hear about the success with the Barnes TSX. I am just getting back into handloading again and bought a Barnes reloading manual because I was looking seriously at the TSX. I had second thoughts when there was no loading info on the TSX in the manual and I was hearing (reading) a lot of opinions on various forums that the Barnes don't open up at reduced velocities and that accuracy was questionable. I still would like to try them, but can't find anywhere (even the Barnes site), that has any info. Do you just use the same data as the standard Barnes bullets? Also, have you tried the TSX for expandability in any media? thanks for the info.

Blaine

Hi Blaine,

There is a good article on the Rifle Shooter Mamazine web site.

www.rifleshootermag.com/

What I did was get on the home page and clicked Featured Rifles in the left colum and they hit go in the upper right corner. Then on the bottom of that page I clicked page 2. You should see the Tripple Shock colum then.

This article states that there is a 13.4% reduction of pressure because there is less bearing surface due to the grooves. They also stated that they can get up to 150 fps increase in velocity because of the decreased friction of the bullet. This colum said they changed the copper so it doesn't foul as much and so far they are right. The accuracy and lack of fouling has convinced me to try them with some other calibers I load for. Jesse wants me to load some for his 243 Win next.

I've tried the Barnes X in the PMS Eldorodo Classic ammo. To date, a friend of mine has dropped 4 deer and 1 elk with the one box I gave him. 2 deer took one step, 1 took two steps, 1 took three steps, and the elk dropped in his tracks.

Two bull elk, one antelope, three mulie bucks so far with the TSX. Best accuracy, best velocity. No bullets were recovered and wound channels were as advertised.

Now I am using the 53gr TSX on coyotes and bobcats with the best results ever and marginal pelt damage.

I am just a walking billboard for these bullets and enjoy selling them at our little gun store. Those that use them become the best salesmen for Barnes. Two customers have taken them to Africa with high praise for their performance there.

I like them in my .257 Roberts (115g @ 3,000fps) and my .300 Win MAg (180g @ ~3,050fps).

Havent taken any game with them, but have taken game with the 7mm a 160g XLC. A coyote dropped instantly, never found the entrance or exit hole - which indicated to me the bullet may not have expanded. Two through the lungs of a buck antelope made it lay down but it kept its head up. I circled around (20 minutes worth), it got up and started to walk off slowly. A third XLC took out its heart and ended its misery. That experience made me go back to Grand Slams that year.

Will probably wait to hunt with them until I hear more good reports. In the meantime I'll use North Forks.

I could never get XLC's to shoot worth a darn. Makes me hesitant to try Tripleshocks... kind of pricy to buy as test case materials.

Newbie here, but everything that I have read on the TSX's is very impressive. Just got done loading 50 rounds of 175 gr. Sierra Gamekings for my 7mm STW. Can't wait to blow these up and try the TSX.

Did someone say 7STW? Very Happy A kindred Spirit!

What rifle do you have it in? I love mine, have it in a WinM70.

Yep, Win Model 70. Just aquired another for my brother, he liked it so much he got rid of his 300 mag. Not saying that the 300 is a bad gun by any means.

You can use the load data in the Barnes book for the regular "X" bullet and start with the minimum load and work your way up to the maximum listed load for the "X" bullet plus add up to two grains of powder to that listed maximum (suggest you do it in 1/2 gr. increments.) Watch for pressure signs! I'm using the 168 gr. TSX in a 300 Win Mag at 3250 fps with sub moa groups. Love it!

What are your favorite loads for the M70? I've been trying alot of different stuff but since I quit using XLC's I cant get the higher velocities even at max charges... its quite puzzling. I used to have around 3500fps loads in 140XLCs. Cant get plain GameKings to break 3230. XLCs just wouldnt shoot worth a crap.

In fact nothing I've tried to reload has beaten factory SwiftA-Frames or Express rounds in terms of accuracy. Kindof frustrating.

I might try some TShocks but I'm getting tired of throwing money away on yet another component that doesnt shoot worth a darn.
