I was having coffee at a buddy's place on Saturday, took my dog over for a date with his dog. His brother-in-law comes out on the deck and starts fixing up his equipment, he's going bow hunting. I got this sense that the brother-in-lsw is possibly not the most popular person in the family. Anyway, I mentioned that I don't bowhunt cuz I'm not sure enough of myself and wouldn't want to leave an animal wounded and in pain and have to track him down to finish him etc. The guy says:
"You could do the same thing with a rifle, make a bad shot."
So I said, "I can't."
I was going to tell the guy that I was just kidding, but he was so quick at giving me a dirty look for being so arrogant I thought "F*** him" and didn't say anything else. Don't think my buddy's brother-in-law likes me now, you can all imagine how upset I am. My buddy and his old father-in-law still want to go hunting with me, lol,

I find I can hold a rifle more steady then a crossbow, so yes I shoot better with the rifle.

I bow hunt tracker, but first and foremost I am a gun man.
There is a large element in the archery community who walk with their noses up in the air about how wonderful they are, and riflemen just don't "get it."
I tend to piss these people off just like you do[SURPRISE!!]
I just start talking ballistics differences between arrows and bullets, and boy do they get pissed off.
Give that a try on the brother-in-law.

I hunted wih a bow for eleven years, during this time myself and the 3 others i hunted with killed 21 deer and 2 coyotes with our bows (i accounted for 3 deer and 1 yote) i never wounded one and lost it but last year i hit a doe a bit far back which led to 3 hours of tracking and giving her the cous de grace in an old blowdown.the others had wounded 11 deer during the 11 years and 7 were not recovered.i know that 4 people don't make a reliable survey, but is enough for me to say enough with the stick flicker.i will also add that the four of us practiced religously yearround, but when you're up in a tree the deer don't stand still and they are rarely quartering away at 15 yards.this is only my opinion,i have nothing at all against archers,it just is'nt for me.i strictly hunt with a handgun, that may not seem right to others, but i will say in the 15 years since i went strictly handgun,i have never needed a second shot,i practice hundreds if not thousands of rounds per year and not from the bench.i practice what i call practical practice, which means in the woods leaning on whatever rest ma nature put there for me....when the time comes to pull the trigger,i know i will be ready.no matter what your weapon,we must remember we as hunters are not seperated by our weapon of choice,we are one fraternity of hunters, jim
