Dimitri...are you using Hoppe's Benchrest #9 copper solvent or just plain #9 solvent?

Dimitri,
I have to agree with George, and say youdo what you feel is right! With our midwest humidity and the tendency for everything to run to rust every Friday is gun day for me!!

Once a week is too much labor for me. A good quality oil (Hoppe's #9) an old T shirt and I'm good for a month (usually have to clean them before a month arrives though. You know...Gun range and all). I do keep a canister of desicent in the gun safe.

Bushmaster,
Before I went to Hoppe's Elite line I was using plain old Hoppes #9, I became a believer in the Elite line when I cleaned my CLEAN rifle with Hoppes #9 then got a ton of dirt out with Hoppes Elite right after.

Is Hoppe's Elite a copper solvent?

Hoppes Elite removes Carbon, Copper and Lead.
Hoppes claims that "A firearm treated with Hoppe's Elite is cleaner than when it shipped from the factory."

That's understandable and easy. Most firearms coming from the factory are very dirty to begin with...I may have to try it...
Yeah. My T/C .50 Hawken tends to collect more moisture then the rest, mostly because I use real black powder and a patched ball and it's also a Den decoration...

I've been using Break Free on my firearms since you had to write to the San- Bar corporation to get a bottle. As a lubricant and rust preventative, I'm very pleased with it, and have seen no reason to change.
BTW, Break Free was developed to meet a mil spec for firearms lubricant, and I think is still widely used by the military.

A while back Bushy and Vint, my gun shop owner told me to try Butch's Bore Shine for my guns, because I'm shooting a lot of cast and copper plated bullets.
He said that it had the same ingredients as the original Hoppes.
I will use two swabs with Butch's in my pistol barrel, which come out dirty, and the third swab is as clean as a hound's tooth.
You might give it a try, it really does the job well.
