I don't own a 710, have a few few rem 700's and a 788. I wasn't empressed by the 710. But ,if your happy, thats all that counts.

Points, I didn't like about the 710 was they felt sticky working the bolt, I guess they will smooth or work-in as time goes bye. I can't buy a new gun that felt bind-ie out of the box.
The pressed in brl on the 1st generation 710 met, they would be a bear to re-brl if you ever wanted too. I felt a new or used Savage bolt or used remington 700 was a better gun for the money. 710's aren't a big seller in Vt, very few dealers stock them.

I would like to know how yours, shoots ? feeds ? and your likes and if you have any dislikes of the 710.

HELLO LITTLE MAGNUM,
I HAVE ONLY TRIED ONE FACTORY LOAD SO FAR. IT WAS SOME CHEAP PMC LOADED WITH A 130 GRAIN SP, NOT SURE WHAT MAKE THE BULLET WAS. IT SHOT JUST OVER AN INCH WITH 5 ROUNDS AT 100 YARDS. I WAS IMPRESSED TO SAY THE LEAST. I HAD NO FEEDING PROBLEMS OF ANY KIND AND MY BOLT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE AS BINDING AS SOME 710'S CAN BE. I READ SOMEWHERE THAT REMINGTON HAS ADDRESSED THE BINDING PROBLEM BY MAKING THE BOLT LINER A FEW THOUSANDS BIGGER THAN ORIGINALY. THE SOMEWHAT HEAVY TRIGGER AND OFF COLOR STOCK ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT BOTHER ME. FOR THE PRICE I CAN GET OVER THOSE TWO THINGS PRETTY EASILY. THE MAIN REASON I BOUGHT THIS GUN WAS TO REPLACE A 270 MY FATHER KEPT FROM ME WHEN WE HAD A FALLING OUT. MY MAIN HUNTING RIFLES ARE A WINCHESTER MODEL 70 IN 30-06 AND A SAVAGE 116 IN 300 ULTRA MAG. THE 710 IS MORE FOR FUN THAN SERIOUS HUNTING ALTHOUGH I WOULDN'T HESITATE TO TAKE IT ON A HUNT OR TWO. I WOULD TAKE A BACKUP GUN JUST IN CASE.

I've heard a lot of criticism directed at the Remington 710. I'm not sure how much of it is justified. Pure and simple, it's a no frills hunting rifle. It's designed for the once or twice a year hunter who doesn't like to reload or even clean his rifle often. The owner is probably a person with no great interest in firearms but likes to get out in the woods and fields when he can. It doesn't get much more simple than that. Best wishes.

The Model 710 is just fine if it is what you like, handles well and can afford. The local gun shops do not stock the Model 710. For the same money one can buy an excellent used Remington 700, Winchester 70 or Ruger Model 77. The gun shops around here would rather sell used guns. All the best...

YEAH ITS A KEEPER. ONE DAY I MIGHT PUT A REAL SCOPE ON IT. I ALSO WILL SIT DOWN AND START DEVELOPING A GOOD LOAD. I HAVE ALLWAYS BEEN ABLE TO MAKE ANY RIFLE I OWN SHOOT BETTER WITH MY OWN LOADS. I WOULD THINK THAT A 140 GRAIN BULLET OF GOOD CONSTRUCTION WOULD DO. I WOULDN'T SHOOT ANYTHING BIGGER THAN A DEER OR ANTELOPE WITH IT SO MAYBE EVEN A 130 GRAINER WILL WORK. REGARDS.

I have 2 friends (father, son) with 710's, both 270's. They seem to like them. They don't shoot more than a box full of ammo a year, but they have taked deer with them. I think that Rem. had a recall on the early ones.
Enjoy your new gun.
