Just ordered some more reloading equipment from one of the few who will export to the UK and have saved 70% (with shipping included) on what I would pay over here. Just wish we could do the same with reloading components.

Gidday wy111.

What are the Laws regarding reloading components mate? Can you get them in or are they prohibited?

Bushy & Vince
I ordered two Forster dies from Lock, Stock & Barrel
Reloading components are impossible to import directly to my home or even posted within the UK to home because of government regulations. Powder, bullets and primers, are totally out, there are a lot of US co's that will not even export scopes.

I can still get all reloading components in UK, it's just that I have to personally visit a supplier, with my Firearms certificate, to obtain what I want. This is why, to a certain degree, components are expensive. If they could be bought over the "Net" and sent directly, there would be more compitition, so the price would have to come down.

We are normally very restricted in the amount of ammo that can be bought and stored(In high security cabinates) at home.

As a reloader, I obtained special permission for my .243 to be able to: - Buy 900 and store 1000 rounds, this irrespective of whether the are loaded rounds or just bullet heads. This is because it is cheaper(HaHa) to buy in bulk.

p.s. Vince,
Before you start pulling my leg about being a wingeing pom, it's just that sometimes you get really pi**ed off about the prices over here, not just for shooting either!

Mate, I don't consider what you have said as whingeing....just good economic sense.

We have to go through similar over here, but we don't have limits on the quantity stored....well not the individual anway.....and they don't consider a projectile to be a loaded round for accounting purposes. When you say "supplier", do you mean an importer or a gunshop? When we go to a gunshop we have to supply our license before we can purchase components or loaded rounds. It is cheaper to buy in bulk, but ya gotta have the "readies" to be able to do it...damn I hate being on a pension!

We don't have to get any special permissions to store bits and pieces, but we do have to comply with storage rules and regs for the firearms themselves, but that is easy. They do firearms checks on an irregular basis to ensure that your firearms security is up to speed and that you don't have any unlicensed firearms....I had a security check last week.

Cheers, Vince

Vince, yep projectiles are classed as rounds which I buy from a gunshop. Importers are few and mainly near London, about 300 miles away, but I suppose thats only round the corner for you!

The law has just been changed to include primers that you need a licence for as well as bullets, to try and stop the criminals from reloading. As 99% of all guncrime seems to be committed with illegally imported handguns, I can't see how this is going to stop them. If they can get the guns, they can get the ammo!

Sometimes I wish I'd taken up the £10 ticket to Aussie that was on offer many years ago!!!

Gee mate, the buggers are certainly making it hard for you thats for sure.

I have heard of crims trucking in all sorts of things from the continent, in fact a mate of mine has an ex wife and her brother-in-law has been in that "business" for some years. He is about as bad as they come and will apparently carry anything if there's a quid in it for him.

Its the same all over the world mate....only the law abiding citizens take any notice of the law and comply with ludicrous firearms laws....crims don't give a damn.

I think that sums it up exactly, but as you succinctly put it in your signature:-
NIL BASTARDUS CARBORUNDUM

Dave, I wasn't aware that bullet heads count as ammo held? In fact I'm sure they're not here in Merseyside.
