hasn't it? Years ago at 12 years old I could walk with a friend down the street of the small town near the farm where I grew up carrying my .22 to go shoot gophers and nobody thought anything of it. Twenty years ago or so we had a gun store in one of our malls and guys, including myself, would go in and out carrying guns back and forth without them being encased and nobody thought anything of it. Can you imagine what would happen if you walked into a Mall heading for a gun shop today, Shocked with a gun, of any configuration, that wasn't encased or even if it was encased! There would be law enforcement officers every where with weapons drawn, and you'd be lucky to stay alive. scared The worst part of it is, we as gun owners have let it happen by not educating the public and by letting the wrong politicians get elected and by not separating ourselves from these nut jobs. We've let anti gun groups, with the help of a few nut jobs, put the fear of guns into the publics mind. Our biggest challenge is to change the publics perception, and how do we do that? If we don't I'm afraid we will lose the battle, if we haven't already. Just my .02 Sad

1895,

If it makes you feel any better I've converted a couple of fence sitters to liking the ideas of private ownership of firearms after having a logical talk with them about how firearm ownership is something that has always been around in Canada and how its a intergral part of our culture. Smile

Normally they see the light, and when they start talking the number game about how many people "guns" kill I mention the stats of how many people were killed in places that had "total gun control" (Nazi Germany, The Soviet Union, Red China etc). And that even in places they claimed were gonna turn into the wild west after the US started to issue carry permits and that crime actually dropped in places that started to issue the permits. Smile

And for the final touch when someone mentions world peace (normally the last thing someone says when talking about guns when they are a fence sitter) I use this qoute by Mahatma Gandhi:

Quote::
"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms as the blackest."

The biggest deterent that we as Americans have against an invasion from another country is the fact that so many Americans do have guns. If invaded, our armed citizens would rise up and our army would probably triple in strength. Not good for the invading army.
