Started working up loads for my new 204 Ruger. I am useing the 39g Sierra bullet. How close to the lands have most of you been able to seat the bullet? There doesn't seem to be enough bullet to get close to the lands. Thanks

I shoot a Remington 204 lvssfII and finally wound up back at the Book specs of 2.250''COL with the Sierra 39 grain .I tried moving the bullet towards the lands as far as the magazine would allow and as you have noted it still was a considerable length from the lands and to boot the groups opened up .At 100 yds i can shoot consistent 3/8" groups so now leaving well enough alone!

shooterjon: your experience is the same as mine regarding seating depth and I can confirm the same results you are having. My groups run .50MOA average and I am content with that.

shooterjon, are you full legth resizing or neck sizing your .204 cases? The first bocks of shells I shot were Federal Premium and the rifle shot under 1/2". I havn't been able to do much better with my reloads yet.

I full length resize only the first NEW cases after that I neck size, trying to get the most life and accuracy out of the WW brass. My load development took 311 rounds of various powders then various bullets and various primers and finally played with bullet seating length and finally settled on 27.6 grs of varget with cci bench rest primer and a 39 gr sierra varminter bullet @ 3690 fps..I know the 32 gr. bullets are inherently more accurate than the 40 grainer's but I wanted to work up loads for Rock Chuck and Coyotes,By the way this load is showing signs of pressure in my 26" barreled Remington's so if you try duplicating this load drop off at least 1/2 grain and work your way up as safety dictates. Very Happy
