Almost all modern wheel guns can be carried fully loaded. It's easy to check with an empty gun. Holding it so you can see between the cylinder and the recoil pad or plate. If you can see the firing pin exposed with the hammer down then you should only carry it on an empty chamber. If you can't see the firing pin then it has a transfer bar (Ruger) or hammer block (S & W) and can be carried fully loaded...Also if you pull the trigger of an empty revolver you will note that the firing pin is exposed until you release the trigger then it disapears. Then it has the transfer bar or hammer block.

I agree. Wherl guns are much more reliable then semi-autos. Less to go wrong. Just harder to hide. Semi-autos are easier to recharge then a wheel gun.

We paint with too broad a brush to state that wheelguns are more reliable than autos. Properly chosen, a revolver or a pistol can be equally troublefree. OTOH, I would agree that much more practice is involved for the effective useage of an auto, ergo, revolvers are simpler and, for many, easier to use, especially in a high drama situation. Yet, in both designs are found a range of point and shoot firearms.

Australia and Canada citizens: take back your country and get your rights back. Crime in Australia has increased since the handgun ban. Least you believe I am lecturing, allow that the same message can be taken to heart here in the good ole USA. Imagine having to ask permission of your own government to excercise one's right to keep and bear arms!

Sidenote: "Unintended Consequences" by Ross is one of the best reads as it follows the development of gun laws and what one determined individual decided to do. Informative and captivating!

30 to 50 years ago wheel guns may have been more reliable than semi-autos, but that is no longer the case.

A Glock or Sig is just as if not more reliable than any wheelguns out there.

It really comes down to what you can draw and fire accurately in hurry. For some people it is a revolver (my wife, Taurus tracker, .357) for others it is a semi-auto (me, 1911 commander, modified). It also depends on how you are carrying it. If you plan on using some kind of waist/fanny pack, the pistol can be much larger than if you are using a holster of some kind.

The bottom line is this, the smallest. lightest, or most reliable handgun in the world is worthless if you can't hit what your aiming at in a hell of a hurry.

I have had a permit since the day after my twenty-first birthday - about two weeks before I got my first pistol. There was a place for optionally listing your guns - I didn't have anything to put in the box and when the cop asked about it I don't think he believed me. I took possession of my Ruger two weeks later.

I see there will continue to be a auto versus wheelgun debate. I like them both, but, I think a wheelgun has the advantage when it comes to calibers.

In a concealed carry role, the auto is easier to conceal. So far, this thread has brought to light many interesting points. Especially for those who are thinking about acquiring a CCW permit.

) who live in a HOT climate. This question is for you. How do you carry when it is hot weather time. It was 26 degrees here this morning, but it was 108 degrees last summer when I first arrived in this area.

HOT: sweat can cause problems with either blue or stainless if carried IWB, shoulder or ankle. I prefer a quality belt holster that keeps the butt of the handgun tight against my side; the DeSantis three slot, the Galco COP, the Milt Sparks BN58 are examples. Some firearms come with superb factory finishes (Glock's Tennifer) that seem impervious to sweat and wear. The aforementioned belt holsters still offer concealability with loose shirts, although, a favorite of mine is the Mexican guayabera which is practical for heat and is designed to be worn without tucking.

Our summer months are really hot & I wear shorts and a short sleeved shirt (out) most of the time. Like I pointed out earlier, I have 3 guns to cover all occassions & seasons. My hot weather gun is the KelTec P3AT in 380 auto. Fits in any pocket, not even noticeable, easy to get to. It's like reaching in your pocket for a set of car keys.

I have done a little deal with my KelTec, I was skepticle at first, I took it apart and dipped the metal in Sweet Shooter, including the mags, and let it dry, repeated the process 6 times per their instructions, not a bit of rust ever. I ordered my gun at the Shot Show in Orlando, when they were still pre production display items. Live in Florida and it do not get hotter and wetter than here bouts. We live in sweat just about year round.

By the way, I have the mag extension on my mags (three finger hold rather than two) and carry Gold Dots in the little beast. I have large hands, 10 inches from little finger tip to thumb end.

For you guys that have not done so, suggest you attend an IPSC or IDPA match and shoot in it. The stress of the match and inability to function as you wish, will point to the areas where you need practice, practice, practice.

SwampFox, I thought about getting the mag extension, decided I didn't really need it. That's a first for me as I usually get all the accessories for the guns I buy. I have big hands too, but, I can grip the KelTec just fine. I'd recommend the KelTec P3AT in 380 auto for anyone who really wants to carry concealed at any time, at 6 ounces, you can't beat it.

I carry a glock 23, 40cal. It's not the smallest gun, but it's what I shoot and I'm comfortable with. I've never had to use it, (thank God) but it's nice to know it's there. On another Forum there was a big discussion on how many carry in the woods while bow hunting. It got pretty intense. The attitudes of some don't understand why most of us carry. Misconception is that we are paranoid and very insecure people. Not even close to the truth.
One guy even stated that, Go ahead and pull it on me and I'll shove it up your a**. That pretty much sums him up. A properly carried Concealed weapon, is just that, you'll never see it. I hope and pray I never have to pull my weapon, but I will always be prepared. That is my right!

Not a problem, you may have to just go smaller. The KelTec P3AT we've benn talking about is only six ounces and runs around $250, might get a used one for less.
