a few weeks ago i bought a box of hornady SST's for my 270 (FYI they are 130gr.) and i was reading on midway usa and they have some pretty high praise on accuracy and effect on game but i was wandering are these really any good or should i ditch those and go to the sierra game kings that i know will work

What will you be using them for? Target shooting? Big Game? What kind of game?

I have some loaded up in my 7mm-08, 140 gr, for the upcoming whitetail season. It will be my first try of the SST's for hunting. On the range they group well so all I need is a test deer to find out what the results are. I am trying them because I was not getting good results with the 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip. Yep the BT's killed the deer but not spectacular performance. Trying the SST's at the advice of several friends that use them.

Have shot both Nosler Ballistic tip and Hornaday SST in 150gr. with 47gr of IMR4895 in an 30-06. Have taken deer with both have seen no difference in killing power. All I know is that you get 50 bullets with Nosler and 100 with Hornaday for the same price

I havent tried SST's but I know people really like them. I have shot a ton of GameKings and while they work good on deer, DO NOT use them on bigger critters like Elk. They work horribly as they break up too quickly.

I got some 117 gr SSTs for my 257 Roberts. They were o.k. in the accuracy department, but somewhat inconsistent. Speer and Sierras both were more accurate, so I use them. YMMV, as rifles are individuals, and may like something other than what mine does.

the sst's should work great for whitetails. My brother in law and myself just returned from a trip out to wyoming and he took a smaller muley buck with a 139gr sst out of a 280 rem. It took about 5 steps and dropped. the range was 200yds with a complete pass through right behind the shoulder. He got sub moa accuracy, but when I tried them in my 270WSM I couldn't get sub moa, but real close

In my experience the Horn SSTs have MUCH more weight variance than the Nosler… So you need more to get 20 of the same weight… My rifles like Nosler better… and so do I

If there as accurate as the Sierrra's stay with them! here are the words of wisdom straight from Hornady,
1) Premium Polymer Tip
The sharp point increases the SST’s™ ballistic coefficient, making it faster and flatter shooting. On impact, the tip also initiates controlled expansion at all velocities.
2) Secant Ogive, Boattail Spire Point Profile
It’s a simple fact: bullets that travel faster hit harder. The Hornady secant ogive, boattail spire point profile gives hunters the incredible speed and downrange energy they’re looking for.
3) The InterLockâ„¢ Ring
Ensures the core and jacket remain locked solid during expansion, so the SSTâ„¢ retains the mass and energy needed for dramatic wound channels. Perfected in the famous Hornady InterLock hunting bullet.
