ogre,
it is in the same performance bracket as the 338-06 and 35 Whelen. Bullet selection is non-existant and the 35 Whelen is a bit more powerful with a wide selection of bullets to choose from.
It might be fun to hve a "one of a kind" rifle but when you have a one of a kind you have to get used to being on your own when it comes to finding load data, ammunition (loaded) and even bullets. I know that Speer makes one in 270 grain but I don't remember seeing bullets by anyone else in the USA.

I believe Nosler now makes a bullet in 9.3, believe it or not.
Still, bullet choices are limited.

The 9.3x62 is a Great Caliber, load data and bullets are widely available, Barns, Nosler, Speer, Swift and many more.
The 9.3x62 will send a 286gr bullet at 2450fps compared to the 35 Whelen with 250gr bullet at about the same fps.
About a year ago I was in need of a new toy. I could not decide between the 35 Whelen and the 9.3x62. I ended up with the 9.3x62. I could not be happier.

65gr Ramshot BigGame
286gr Partition
Lapua Brass
215M Primer
3.28 COL

This is a load that John Barnsness in Handloading magazine used in his 9.3x62 and his tests with a pressure trace strain gage said it was about 50000 psi.

Never heard of a '62 getting much over 2300+/- a few fps with a 286 ..

Thanks
Jack

Here is a quote from John Barsness over at the 24hour camp fire.

"As side not to Yukoner: I have loaded Norma brass for my rifles with with enough Ramshot Big Game to get 2475-2500 fps with 286 Partition or Barnes TSX so many times that the necks cracked. Never had a loose primer pocket. While I agree that 2400 fps has done it for years, my rifles generally shoot better at the higher velocity (probably because the longer bullets made today, especially the TSX, are better stabilized). It doesn't seem to hurt their performance in the field, either.

MD"
