Kid building a target rifle

Hey all. I'm 16 and am getting into benchrest shooting. I was going to buy a target rifle, but I've read that it is cheaper to build one yourself. I will be shooting 100 and 500 yard competitions around my area. Anyone with help/experience would be appreciated.

Well I dont do competition shooting but I've read about it and it depends on what you want.

A cheap starter right might be A used M700 action, a match grade barrel and a blue print job of the reciver by a good gunsmith. Smile

There are more extensive modifications of the M700 possible such as sleeving the whole action etc. As well as specific for competition actions being built by companies. Smile

What type of action do you want to use or do you have to use and if you have an action, what bolt face are you working with, small or standard?
