I'm of the opinion that a lot of the articles we read in gun magazines are printed to generate sales. I do have several that I like however. One that I really liked seems to have gone by the wayside, "The Accurate Rifle". Any gun magazine recommendations?

It depends. I used to get a bunch of gun magazines and over time have reduced that number to only a few. Too many of the articles were either rehashes of redundant topics or glowing sales pitches for various very expensive guns. My personal favorites are The American Rifleman and Guns magazine. All the best...

Gil,
Funny thing but those are the only two magazines I have delivered. I do however pick some up at the store from time to time. Handloader is one that I often pick up.
BTW: I visit your town once a week, at the Neff's Nat. Bank.

I subscribe to Guns & Ammo and Shooting Times. As was pointed out, many articles are redundan. I bet if I dug far enough. I'd find these two connected to eachother. I use to get Handloader, but, they never did much that interested me.

On Target, Handgun, American Hunter. They all are selling something though.

American Rifleman, American Handgunner, Handloader and Western Horseman. And a couple of these will be weeded out when I move to Ava.

Wolf Publishing has had it's ups and downs, however, the recent issues of "Rifle" and "Handloader" always have articles that are of personal interest. John Barness, staff member, is reaching a plateau of useful, real world, common sense information that can only be compared to the best of Jack O'Connor.

"Varmint Hunter" is another favorite with plenty of subscriber submitted articles as well as staff articles. "Precision Shooting" gets my nod, too, however, both these mags are by subscription only in my area.

Barsness is getting better no doubt , I really hated it when Gary Sitton left a couple years ago .. He was really good .. He died last October .. Another one gone ..

I subscribe to Petersens Hunting and the NRA's American Rifleman. When the Petersens runs out I'm going to sign up for Succesfful Hunter. Predator Xteme is also real good.

Favorite writers #1)Finn Aagaard (deceased), #2)John Barsness, #3) Layne Simpson, #4) Craig Boddington, #5 Clair Rees.

My favorites are "The Varmint Hunter" www.varminthunter.com/
and Precision Shooting www.precisionshooting.com/
I like the NRA publications too. After that there is not much 'new' information published in the on the shelf magazines.

Anymore, "Handloader" is the only one that I spend more time reading. The other gun magazines, many I subscribe to, have redundant articles. They spend too much time covering 1911 pistols & expensive rifles. Who are they writing to? I feel like questions I might have will never get covered.

I read "The Varmint Hunter", but that's the only one. Most of the others are riddled with articles that don't interest most of us, about calibers that very few of us shoot, and rifles that few of us own. I don't find many of the writers to be honest in their rifle evaluations either. I think they are recycling basically the same articles over and over. There's not much to like about them anymore. Just one mans opinion. Best wishes.
