I enjoy life on the Northern Prairies. Generally could be a little cooler in August. Lived most of my life in the late Great Northwest. Still amazes me how the folks out there could complain about a tree being cut down, but on there own land they cut everything down and built a castle on every mountain top. What a nutty place to live anymores.

All my guns considered loaded and stored in my one small gun locker.--tr

I notice that there is a number of different ideas on how firearms are carried in the field...unloaded, loaded with no round in the chamber and not cocked, round up the spout not cocked, round up the spout cocked and safety on, round up the spout safety off.

The condition of my firearm when hunting depends on the situation. Mostly it will be loaded with one up the spout, but the bolt may or may not be fully closed, bearing in mind that the Weatherby cocks on pushing the bolt handle down, so it may or may not be cocked. I don't often use the safety catch in the field for this reason. Get into (inside) a vehicle and it is unloaded....BEFORE climbing aboard. Getting into the back of a ute (small truck) at night for spotlighting, it is loaded bolt open AFTER climbing aboard. We don't have what you would classify as dangerous game in Australia ie, bear, big cats etc so we don't have to worry about personal protection.

I suppose how you store and carry your firearm can be, but not necessarily, indicative of your feelings about firearm safety. Of course this must be tempered with the given situation at any time.

It must be remembered.....you maybe fanatical about safety, however the people around you may not be (kids usually have little or no understanding) and although they should not be touching your firearm without your permission it does happen. If they do, the higher your level of safety the less of a chance there is of an accident

Be slack at home and you will probably be slack in the field. Matters not where the accident happened, but how and what you did or didn't do that lead up to it.

Cheers, Vince

When I am in rifle hunting mode, I will have round in chamber, bolt locked and cocked with safety on. - tr

That's the way I do it as well. Afterall, I think that's what the manufacturer had in mind.
Keep it coming...
