Yep, it gets bloody heavy. “Front line” for the Aussie soldier in Vietnam was 3 x 20 round magazines of 7.62mm NATO for the L1A1 SLR... |
Lucky bugger. On airfield defence exercises, we had to carry 7x20 plus 250 rounds of link for the GPMG as well as our other kit.
Sometimes us poor sods were also lumbered with a couple of Charlie G rounds for our sins, or worse yet, the bloody CG launcher itself - all 30 summink pounds of it. |
Yeah, but luckily you guys didn’t have to worry about “advancing to contact” aver 30 kms, or assaulting with fire and movement up bloody great yarmas like your basic infantryman. Those “guts ache” round are a pain in the arse, as is the Charlie Swede itself. Luckily, we had a dedicated anti armour platoon that had all that stuff...we only carried the 66mm LAWS.

We're totally stocking up here... on food. You can buy a helluva lot of food right now for the cost of a simple AR15.
The news isn't really covering it, but 2020 is decimating food creation capabilities across the globe. The food we are eating now was created / grown /processed last year. With whats going down right now around the world, making sure the food stores are topped off is a good idea.
"Food for thought" (pun intended):
43% corn crop loss in Iowa in 1 storm last month.
www.washingtonpost.com...rn-damage/
Minnesota lost upwards of 40% of crops in a July storm.
China is undergoing biblical type flooding right now, and its still getting worse. 13 million acres of the prime rice growing fields are submerged and crops destroyed. That is an area the size of West Virginia... and accounts for 70% of China's rice growing.
www.cnn.com/2020/08/08...index.html
Beirut had that recent dock explosion, which destroyed the areas grain storage. That grainery held 120,000 tons of grain.
www.world-grain.com/ar...-explosion
Food is dang cheap right now, its going to get ALOT more expensive when the masses start to realize the upcoming shortages. I dont know if other places around the world have the "case lot sales", but here locally some of the bigger super market store chains have cases of food they sell fairly cheap each fall. I told my wife not to go crazy on it, but I gave her a list of things I'd like to make sure we have a case or two off here at the house. She spent $240 Saturday and brought back more food than I cared to carry downstairs, lol! But its reassuring to know we have it now... and its good food we like to eat, so we'll use it up over the next year and save what would be trips to the store to get what we need.
What I really want to find is some cheap bulk food grade salt. With salt, you have endless options to preserve meats and other things if say power is out for extended periods of time (there are still as of right now 5,000 house holds in my state without power from a storm with hurricane force winds that hit last week... that knocked out over power for over 250,000 homes).
I wish I had got salt when my brother (a Taxidermist who uses a bunch of it) recommended it. It was like $9 for 25lbs. I saw a 25lb bag the other day for $90!!! Holy moley....

Dallan. ,,,,, On the salt look at the pool salt ,,,, salt is salt ,,,, Biggest trouble we're have is finding more canning jars and lids ,,,along with sure-jell is in short supply. Still have quite a few gallons of figs , strawberries and tomatoes in the freezer needing to go into jars .... as they keep for years.

your local fertilizer company will have rock salt in bulk bags..20kg etc....cant see any difference myself...also stock food places will have blocks of the pink Himalayan rock salt...thats the same stuff you buy in shops just in big rock like chunk....

I dunno where my wife found lids, but she's been bottling all week and finished the last of it today. Lots of jams, syrup, jelly, juice etc. I think the best jam that gets made is either Chokecherry Jam or Apricot Jam (mix in some ground up pineapple, its amazing).
As apples ripen up, she'll probably do some apple pie fillings (she bottles them) and apple sauce.
Gotta love farm fresh foods

Ahhhh...stop it mate...I’m drooling into my keyboard almost as bad as looking at one of Deer Sniper’s guns.
My wife is a brilliant cook, but she won’t do jams or preserves. I grew up with these always available because my Mum used to make them all the time.

I'm keeping my flour store at around 25kg, rice & pasta around 10.
I've plenty of vegetable seeds ready for next year.
If the world goes wahoonie shaped, there's plenty of sheep up on the hills, deer in the woods & rabbits in the fields.
Worst comes to the worst, there's plenty of "long pig" on the hoof...
