Just a little post while everyone is worried about the Apocolypse Confused to remember what this day should be remembered for the actions of millions that helped land 326,547 troops (Special thanks to them Salute ) , 54,186 vehicles and 104,428 tons of supplies in 5 days which marked the turning point of the war. Smile

This is day is for the whole world as well as the countries that supported it and made it happen:
United States, Great Britain, and Canada. Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Greece, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Poland.

You're pretty darn sharp figuring out all them loose ends ands stuff.
But getting back to the post, that was for sure a day to remember, and for some, one hell of a place to be.--tr

Why thank you Moose2...I was a worrior for 22 years and to be a worrior one must have an enemy... Very Happy

And in saying so. I honor all those who served in any conflict that preserved freedom and especially those who gave all they had...

My dad traveled alot around the world and to this day, is still in respectful awe of the graveyards there overlooking the bluff. He was 6 years old during the war but remembers his brother off fighting.

I watched Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers back to back Memorial day... just incredible what the "Great generation" was able to accomplish back then.

Makes me sad to think most high schoolers today dont have a clue who, how, what or why wars were or are fought.

I was in Saving Private Ryan!

The battle at Rummel at the end - where Tom got shot - was my bit. I was using a MG42 maching gun - SS through and through.

Now, where is my tunic?

If I was in highschool I'd have been offended by that. Laughing

But I do understand what your comming from. World War 2 isn't something most kids understand nowadays. To them WW2 was simply a war that happend so they can play video games "losely" based on it. Yuck Is it wrong of me to refuse to play the side of the Axis on these same games ?? Confused

Punk kids nowadays. Mad Some of them need to be reeducated. Smile

Well his day is special to me as well. I'm USAF retired, servered from 1961 to 1982 so you know what wars I relate to.

I'm afraid though, this day won't be popular, like Vietnam, our involvment in Iraq, also unpopular at this time (Bush ratings way down) will only serve to make people less interested in honoring those who have served in the past.

So much can be said on this subject, but, I feel for my son who has 16 years of military time & plans to retire in 2009, that he also may be called a baby killer & have his uniform spat upon like I did during the Vietnam days. Crying or Very sad

It's a shame the politicians have done it again.
Keep it coming...

LOL. I did clarify to say "most" not "all". There are a few I know locally who have their heads screwed on straight... the rest... they could care less beyond what the next toon on their IPod is, or what picture their friends just sent them on their picture phone.

Hummm...Dang Mormans anyway...(I'm married to one. I know). L O L Very Happy Been married to her for 26 years and still can't get used to "Morman Time". I would figure that Utah would be quite the patriotic state because of the Morman influence...

Dallan,

My mistake. Smile Mind you if you did say "all" it would almost be pretty accurate. Finding a level headed highschooler is like looking for a needle in a hay stack Wink

LOL It used to be that way... now we are all under the Californian influence due to the insane amount of "move-ins" we've had. Sad I hear Idaho and Montana are nearly as bad though. I want to move out... Wyoming or Alaska methinks. Wife's green lighted anything that will make me "happy" because she knows how much i hate my job.

Anyway now I'm getting adrift from the topic at hand, a big Salute to the great ones and what they accomplished and sacrificed on this important day.

We owe those men a great debt, and so does all of Europe.
