A Couple lived near the ocean and used to walk the beach a lot.

One summer they noticed a girl who was at the beach almost every
day.

She wasn't unusual, nor was the travel bag she carried, except for
one thing; she would approach people who were sitting on the beach, glance around furtively, then speak to them.

Generally, the people would respond negatively and she would
wander off, but occasionally someone would nod and there would be a quick exchange of money and something she carried in her bag.

The couple assumed that she was selling drugs and debated calling
the cops, but since they didn't know for sure, they just continued to watch
her.

After a couple of weeks the wife said, "Honey, have you ever
noticed that she only goes up to people with boom boxes and other electronic devices?"

He hadn't - and said so.

Then she said, "Tomorrow I want you to get a towel and our big radio
and go lie out on the beach. Then we can find out what she's really doing."

Well, the plan went off without a hitch and the wife was almost
hopping up &down with anticipation when she saw the girl talk to her husband and then leave.

The man then walked up the beach and met his wife at the road.

"Well, Is she selling drugs?" she asked excitedly.

"No, she's not," he said, enjoying this probably more than he
should have.

"Well, what is it then? What does she do?" his wife fairly
shrieked.

The man grinned and said, "She's a battery salesperson."

"Batteries?" cried the wife.

"Yes ." he replied -

DallanC...
It is obvious that this youngin' has just too much time on his hands. We need to assign him something constructive to keep his mind active on more productive projects like "Rifling...Why so many different twists per inch between manufacturers" "Why are there different twist specifations" Also..."What determines the depth of the rifling".

These asignments should keep him busy and out of the "Jokes & Humor" field... Point Popcorn Hiding

Bushmaster,

Is there a problem if I have too much time on my hands ?? Very Happy

Oh and as to your questions,

Quote::
"Rifling...Why so many different twists per inch between manufacturers"

Every manufacturer makes there rifles to suit what they feel most of the people who by there rifles will use as to the weight of the ammo. If they think most people will shot 150gr's in 30-06 out of the gun why make it good to shoot 220grs ?? Confused 1 in 10 seems to be popular for 308's used in competion nowadays using 175gr Match Kings for example. Smile

Quote::
"Why are there different twist specifations"

Everyone is trying to get the best rifling they can. They want a rifling that lasts long, that doesnt fowl up fast and at the same time be accurate. And everyone just "picks" what they feel would be the best after some R&D Wink

Quote::
"What determines the depth of the rifling"

Rifling is only a few thou deep most of the time as it doesnt need to be that deep. You dont want the gas to escape around the bullet as your firing it if you have too deep of a rifling. Smile As well as if you want to shoot lead and or black powder loads you want to have deeper rifling to prevent fowling up as fast. Thats why some people dont like the rifling Marlin put in some of there lever guns as they cant shoot cowboy action loads. Cool

I think thats right Confused But you know people can probably write a book on each one of these topics. Shocked

*******

Durn it, Bushy! You did it again! NOW there are less "time fillers" to keep our young hero busy.

O.K. everybody THINK! I'm sure we can come up with some worthy projects.

Mine: In photography: How do they get a square picture out of that little round hole?

Aw heck, nevermind. Let's have a party! Party

Sniper...Where's the party???

The lens is round, the hole is round, the shutter is a curved six or eight sided hole that approximates round. Just a lot of the picture never gets to the film - it is in a square frame and it is square (rectangular) in shape. The part of the picture that is bigger than the square is lost to the darkness inside your camera.

Yah haven't finished yet Dimitri.

Now to figure out how that spirally aperture thingy, you know, the widgetty thingy that works with the shutter thingy, knows when enough light has got through. Also how the shutter thingy, that isn't sharp, cuts off the light cleanly without leaving a ragged edge on the picture.

Also, how come some pics are square and some are oblong. Cameras are tricky gizmos....really clever gadgets methinks.

Now for the real hard one.....Why do some people have red eyes in pictures when they have blue eyes in real life?

Back to work mate......use up some more of that time.

Cheers, Vince

Vince,

Since I'm checking the forums while I'm supposed to be studying for the test I'll do the "hard" one ok ?? Laughing

Quote::
An image in which a subject’s irises are red instead of black. The red eye effect is caused by light from a flash traveling through the iris and illuminating the retina at the interior back of the eye–– which is red in color due to its blood vessels –– and the camera capturing that redness on film.
