This video is worth looking at. The following words are not mine but from other people. Keep watching to the end.
Certainly the most accurate assessment of the causes of today’s violent culture except the beginnings go back to when violent video games first became available. One simply needs to question the reasons behind military training films, and they are not half so graphic or violent as most of the video games. I may be cynical, but I sometimes wonder whether governments approved the games to give them an excuse to confiscate guns?
Truly a must see video! You owe it to yourselves, your kids and grandkids. Matt Bevin, Governor of Kentucky, responds during a 2018 appearance to a woman Nigel asking why he doesn’t support stricter gun control laws to address gun violence. This is a brilliant, off the cuff, articulation of the moral and cultural shift that has taken place in our country over the last 40 years. Because "gun control" will likely be addressed by Congress when it finally returns this week, this video should be given the widest distribution. (The school shooting he refers to happened in January 2018. Never heard about it. Bet you didn't either.)
Definitely worth a look and it reflects much of what we have been saying downunder!!!
Fortunately our gun laws are already in place however some of his observations are food for thought!!

I don't believe that social media and violent games can affect the moral values of kids with parents that are actively participating in their lies. A lot of people have forgotten that parents are supposed to support and nurture their children. My mom taught me unconditional love. My dad taught me the difference between right and wrong. TV didn't teach me anything and the only thing I have learned from computers is to write code precisely. If you screw up the code it doesn't do what it is supposed to do. It's a lot like life; if you screw up you get disciplined. If you do well you get rewards. We don't need to go after the world of pretend we need real parents.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments Paul. Good solid parenting is what is needed, however it’s an uphill battle for parents because of:
the societal attitudes towards social media,
the ready availability of violent and other games that portray very liberal anti-social attitudes, including pornography, and finally
many of the parents today have grown up with social media and violent games and are either directly or indirectly passing on their attitudes to their children.
It will take probably 3 generations to clear these attitudes assuming social media is cleaned up today and violent games outlawed immediately. Society’s attitudes are far more difficult to change though because of the extreme attitudes of many today (ANTIFA and the copious “rent a crowd” protestors against anything and everything), then of course there are the politicians and political parties, who are supposed to be shining examples of everything right, however are usually not, and because of party politics, are anti everything proposed by the opposing party, regardless of whether it is good, right or correct.
I can’t see major changes anytime soon. The best we can do is try to raise our children to have the right attitudes so that they become part of the solution, not part of the problem.

PaulS with all due respect that is a load of bollucks.
if kids screw up in life now that dont get disaplined....parents who smack thier children are now criminals.
young adults who break the law get slapped with wet bus ticket and carry on as before.
parents arent allowed to disapline thier own kids and sociaty make plurry sure they dont.
when police come knocking on your door because someone from school said you have hit your child...life gets very interesting very fast.
you CANNOT take a cell phone off child if they have paid for it..even if they are watching porn at dinner table.....its against the law...according to the policeman I dealt with.
porn and voilent graphic games are warping young folks minds, making the abnormal and down right weird into a normal everyday thing.
a parent can be very actively involed in a childs life and still be on outer as they have a whole different world as soon as they pick up a cellphone/I phone/tablet.
with recent changes a child can now speak into phone to ask a question and get one instantly....now eggzachary whos idea of a correct answer they get is the HUGE issue arrising from this.
we have a TV add running about this very thing at present..all those little white lies kids have been told for generations to avoid awkward questions eg will swimming pool turn blue if you pee in it??? does the internet stop after 20:00?? are two on that add.

I agree with both of you. It's a mixture of both. The end product is what we have today.

Thanks for sharing that Vince!
As Bushy said, it is the TOTAL experience, not just bits and pieces, that is the problem. The parents, BOTH OF THEM, have to be engaged. The games, etc., do influence kids who aren't grounded by their parents. Kids take on the cultural aspects they are shown.

I viewed this answer a year ago very close to the time it was made and thank you for posting it again. It is a beautifully spoken response and is a mature and adult observation of our current society.
