For thoses that load for the Mod 94 I was asked to work up a load using a FP lead bullet. I chose a 165 grain Missouri Bullet 18 brinell. Using Remington, H335 and Win LRP. Rifle...1949 Win 94. And no leading.

Ended up with 30.0 grains of powder giving me, across my chronograph, 1950 fps +/- 25 fps. At 100 yards it's dead on. At 200+ yards, Vince knows the long range I used, It hit the target with very little extra elevation. Remember Larry's place?

If you shoot or hunt with the Winchester Mod 94 this is worth looking into.

Is it a 30/30 Win?

Sounds right. Did you cast and size and lube the lead bullets, or buy them? I have been amazed with the accuracy of various .30/30 loads. The old classic cartridge just keeps moving on and doing a job. Good information. All the best...

Yep, I remember Larry’s range mate...thoroughly enjoyed the day. I was more than a little disappointed that it started to rain the day we were shooting there.

That sounds like a damn fine load for the old crank handle mate...I just might have to look at it for my ‘94.

The 30-30 is probably one of the easiest rifle cartridge to get good results shooting cast lead in. Chamber in many rifle can be generous so over size cast bullet are not a problem chambering and rifles like my Sav. 170 pump 30-30 have a 1:12 twist which helps stabilize those bullet as higher velocity, it's not hard at all to run cast lead at jacketed bullet velocity in the 30-30 but in most cases you don't need to if you use the right alloy and bullet design with a nice meplat.

Two of my favourite cast bullets in my 30-30 is the Ranch Dog 170 gr. FP and the Lee 170 gr. FP. The Ranch Dog design gets the edge in the meplay dept. but the Lee mold is expensive and cast great bullet that shoot just as good for plinking or hunting purposes.

I like H335 for my HV cast loads in the 30-30 it gives a nice slow push and good accuracy. Red Dot is my favorite powder for light plinking loads under 1300 fps. and with those loads I can just leave the gas check off as they shoot accurately with no leading without it.

Another little load I like in my 30-30 is the little Lee 32 cal. .314" 90 gr. SWC tumble lube or powder coated and sized to .311" it's subsonic as well and a nice small game load or tin can popper.

Never loaded cast bullets in the 30/30, but have loaded jacketed.

As stated earlier, it is one of the easiest rifle carts. that I have loaded. Alweay, for me, 170gr bullets, any manufacturer, any suitable powder, the end results were the same. At that time, I didn't have a chrono.

The 30/30 is just a grand caliber.
