I ported one of my old singles"just cause" 4x 1/8th'' holes at 10 and 2 oclock about an inch apart.....its a nice shotgun to shoot ,they dont do any harm but not sure about how much good...it does help keep muzzle down with heavy loads and looks pretty in the dark!!!!LOL.they are bored in straight so dont direct noise backwards...... well the local geese arent dumb,my boat might sound different but they still recognise her and took off when we were still 4-500 yards away, the good news is I can get 40kmph out of it with just my fat bum in it and 37kmph with Bec's and the 2 dogs aswell......a HUGE step up.

Well shucks Elvis, it kinda sounds like you need a need a new boat to go with your motor, so those local geese won't recognize you!!!

Some brush tied to the bow and gunnels might help a little.

Yep, was gonna suggest exactly that mate...a camo paint job and as Paul suggested, some brush to break up the outline etc.

Rather than rip tear bust across the water, maybe a gentle idle around the edges of the waterhole to creep up on the cheeky buggers might help...slowly slowly, catchee monkey mate.

That's why I said either a clean kill or a clean miss...

Since I know what the loads will do at maximum distance, with tight chokes, at least for me, it is then a lot easier to work on more open patterns with the same gun and load, just by changing choke tubes...

Those are some very impressive patterns. I applaud the fact that you spend time testing various loads and chokes and see what works. All the best...

Thank you Gil...

Rifle, shotgun or pistol, I feel that if you are going to shoot it, hunt with it and load for it, then you need to make it the best that it can be...

I always start with "tight" patterns on shotgun loads, because once you have the load you are looking for, then it just becomes a matter of finding the right choke to give you the pattern that you want. Wide close range patterns are easy, it's those long range loads that take the most time and effort, and in my opinion, they are worth it...

Im sure you have some "spreader loads" on hand at all times too....so if birds suddenly start in close you change loads not chokes.... was about to type to finish bird on water (where MOST fellas will use a heavy load of small shot to try to hit head ) then thought doah....D.S. can use same load and just pluck off its noggin LOL. we used the .410 for this job for a couple of seasons,my young fella got very very good at it.

Elvis,

I don't bother loading or shooting spreader loads, as I just swap out choke tubes, depending on hunting situation, location and shooting distance, which is one of the good things about these Muller chokes extending 1 1/2" in front of the muzzle, making it easy for a quick choke change out...

Yes, I'll use the same load for a swatted load if needed, with the tighter choke, and just shoot for the head. Done it for years and it works fine...
