So PaulS, what did you get? I have multiple direct impingement ARs and have had no issue with cleaning or lubing. They are no more trouble than the mini-14 I had. I think you are reading about wows in the beginning of the ARs life which was 50 years ago BTW. I've shot 800 plus rounds through mine without cleaning with no issue.

Scratch Paul-while ELvis is talking rugers;they also make their AR's in direct impingment and piston type too-2 dift gas systems-2 dift guns!

OSR I believe the newer models are pretty good and guys have worked out what loads make the older ones go good too..... for deer sized animals at .223 ranges (sub 150 yards) 2moa is plenty good enough.
