CBB doesn't list a BC for this particular projectile at this point. Is this something you are assisting with? |
I just started testing last night. Should have some initial data this weekend.

Couple of days ago, I finally received the 115 gr MKZ,s in the mail. Been since the first part on 1/2017 when Slimjim mentioned them. We,ll CavityBack has had a lot of problem,s keeping these bullets in stock because they were selling out real fast.
Anyhow been working up loads for my 270 with the 140 gr Nosler P.
LATER FOLKS,

I'll bring some life to this old thread.
If I could only pick one gun from my safe for any North American animal it would be my .300 Weatherby, and the bullets that I am currently shooting in it are 180 grain Barnes TTSX, handloaded to 3248 fps.
The rifle is a Weatherby Vanguard that I bought in 2009, then I replaced the stock with AA Fancy walnut from Richards that I glass and pillar bedded the action and free floated the barrel. I also hand checkered the stock with my favorite multi-panel wrap around pattern.
Before I ever shot it I had a KDF muzzle brake installed on it and I installed a recoil reducer in the butt stock. With the brake and recoil reducer the felt recoil is less than the recoil from my .308 Win or .257 Ackley.
I've had several different scopes on it, with the current one being a 4.5-14x40 Leupold VX-II with the CDS dial. I also recently replaced the factory trigger with a Timney.
I have worked up sub moa loads for it with a variety of bullets including 168 and 180 grain Barnes TSX and TTSX, 168 grain Hornady BTHP, and 150 grain Hornady FMJ.
In the 7 years that I've hunted with this rifle, I've used it on multiple Western US hunts from Texas exotics to Bull Elk, three trips to Africa for a variety of animals from Klipspringer to Sable bulls and Leopard, and a hunt in New Zealand for 4 of their animals ranging from a Fallow buck to a giant red stag. My most recent hunt with this rifle was for a Dagestan Tur in Azerbaijan.
When I first started big game hunting some 50 years ago I only had one rifle, a .30-06, and I used it for all of my hunting from prairie dogs to elk. Now I have the luxury of having a safe full of rifles and I can pick the rifle that I think best fits the game that I am hunting.
But my favorite rifle is my .300 Weatherby.

I can see why, buffybr. You have a lot into that rifle. You should post a picture of your Weatherby so the rest of us can drool.
Yep, I rely on the Barnes bullets, also. I use the 129 LRX in my .270 and it has always been accurate and reliable when it connects. Using the MKZ from CavityBack in my 6.8mm SPC as they outperform the Barnes in that cartridge when it comes to terminal performance.
