Got lucky this morning, I'll write up a full story later with pictures. Suffice it to say I dropped the hammer on a nice herd bull this morning. Big, stinky and noisy! Had him at 100 yards in thick cover for 30 minutes before he tried to cross a fence line. Dropped him as he was about to jump over, he caught one heal and kicked and tore the fence down for 30 feet both ways. Big sucker!

Gotta drive back down to get my camp trailer and other ML gear I left, ML deer season starts tomorrow and I am NOT prepared.

Did you burn a candle? It seems you missed a buck to get a bigger one. That's what's called "Force Majeure" and proves St.-Hubertus still likes you!

Roses Roses

You have achieved mate...but nothing less than I expected.

I'm with Elvis on this one...so long as you have a pulse you are 95% prepared. I am pretty certain that you have all the "makin's" for your ML sitting there, ready to go at a moment's notice, and just waiting to be picked up to head off into the field mate.

Good luck with the ML hunt mate and I look forward to seeing pics of it all.

I'm getting too old for this. Anywho drove back down to camp after dropping off the elk to the butcher, then loaded up and brought it all home. Prepped gear and went to bed late. Back up at 5:30, drove to the top of a different mountain as the sun was just coming up. Honestly I wasn't very picky, found a small buck I took a shot at, missed..... uhhhh reloaded shot, missed again! Realized the scope might really be off, wondered if that is why I missed the big elk. Drove another quarter of a mile and suddenly there were deer everywhere. This is high alpine county, 8000ft on up above the tree line. Anywho a small buck jumped out in front of me at 60 yards, I took quick aim and got what I thought was a well placed shot off... instead of the vitals I hit it in the neck. Huh, guess the scope is really off I don't understand how that could be, I had sub 1 inch groups at 130 yards with this gun all summer. Ah well... took care of the deer and headed home. I am soooooo sleeping in tomorrow.

I will get some elk pictures posted soon.
