Battleship vs Panama Canal

Stumbled into this picture... quite amazing. I'd known they built the IOWA's to fit the canal, just didn't realize how tight of a squeeze it was. Literally only a few inches to spare!

There was no need to make it any bigger than it needed to be. Fit a battleship was the requirement.

sure looks like a tight fit.....bit of good old bump and grind as they go I bet..... nothing a coat of paint wont fix.

You just have to go through on a cool cloudy day. If the metal expands from the heat then the walls get polished and the ship gets sanded. As Bushy said, ready for painting.
