Any which way that works.
Love these improvisation stuff.

I think it is Mc Gyver or something.

A battery and a piece of steel wool is almost a necessity in any camping kit for that very reason Elvis.

I also have a Fire Lighter at hand when I go anywhere I am likely to need fire mate. Along with my fire lighter I also have a small zip lock bag with a couple of cotton balls "soaked" in Vaseline. They light very easily with a spark from the lighter, all you need do is pull out as much (or little) as you need, spark into it and "foop" flamage.

I've used a 22lr shell that way too once to start a fire, lol.

I got the family all Sweedish Steel's for Christmas this year. We had an evening during this years hunt where my boy got separated (on purpose, send him down a ridge, I rode around to pick him up at the bottom, we had radios) and realized he didn't have anything to start a fire with.

During the dark days when I smoke a pack a day, once I was in the bush with a pack of cigarette without a lighter.
From then on I always have a fresnel lens in the wallet.
In Oz, we almost always have enough sunlight to start fire with a magnifier lens.

As Dallan said...Swedish FireSteel...can't beat them. Two or three cotton balls saturated in Vaseline in a zip lock bag and you can even start a fire in the wet with even half a cotton ball.

This is my "emergency" fire lighting tool. The Fire Stick is in a leather tube in the side of the knife pouch and the striker sits in the clipped pouch on the front. The ziplock bag on the right contains about 4 cotton balls saturated in Vaseline.

I also have a second Fire Stick I carry in my pouch if necessary.

More than a couple Pete...methinks the whole bottle. Very Happy Very Happy

No Suz...the Vaseline isn't for rubbing on the Fire Stick mate...it's for a different use. Cool

Dryer lint works equally as well, no vaso required, although the vaso makes it water proof and a hotter fire I suppose.
