Solly, my knowledge is blocked on the level of roedeer and wild boar.
So I really don't need that .375 H&H nor that 458 WM...
unless that lion or elephant escapes from our local zoo Smile

so: what's the difference between elk and moose? My computermouse is riding a piece of leather coming from a moose. A present of my swedish friend who passed away last year in July. Am I expected to recognise elk when my mouse is using a moose-pad?

Aloy- this is a moose.....yellow rack, bulbous nose, white gloves. Hard to confuse the two. FYI.

hard to confuse???

I went to Google translator for a translation English to Dutch:

"elk" ==> "eland"
"moose" ==> "eland"

and when Google doesn't know the difference, why should I?

I've tasted moose-steak and is there any difference with elk-steak? That's the question!

Moose is sweet like sugared beef.

Elk is like very lean beef.

What we know as moose is elk in Europe. First settlers tended to just use familiar terms and names. I guess the red deer is about as close as it gets to Wapiti in Europe.

LMAO!

Rocky Mountain Elk and NP Moose? Thats as apples and oranges as it gets!

They are as comparable as trout and alligators! Actually, that's a pretty good analogy.

Either or...both are yummy. And Suz nailed it. Slip a nice flint point in behind the shoulder from the uber-silent 68" longie? Quartering will commence in 10 mins, cooking in 20!

BURRRRRRP! Razz

God I love that woman! Very Happy

And yes, Gramps, I'm putting in for a bow tag this year....so keep yer Stetson on! 100gr flints, 68", 45# longie, a match getting struck makes more noise. Man that stick is quiet! Ohhyeh!

What the hell is a "longie"? No...don't tell me. It's a "long bow". Right? Is that recurved or straight? 45#...You fit enough to hold that at full draw for one minute? Without starting to shake...

Yeh, people laugh cuz it's slow. I don't care. I don't sit in trees and wait. I find my stuff and get close enough to see eye lashes. If I get 20y or less you aint gona jump the string if I aim right.

It's a PSE Legacy recurve/decurve. With some beaver balls and a deer skin tab it's really quiet.

Till the point hits.

Then things get a little exciting. Very Happy

I take it the beaver balls(unlucky beaver) stop the twang when you release?

Yup! Makes a huge difference too. All you hear is the "whisp" of the fletch. Really cool. It's pretty quiet for a budget stick overall I'm impressed. I put them on my takedown recurve too. Dramatic difference, but that bow is still twangy. Mountain Man Beaver Balls are the best.
