Funny Pumpkin I just got new card today and along with it they tell you the free benefits of the card, one of which is called fraud early warning protection. Didn't seem to work very well. They monitor your transactions looking for suspicious activity and will call you to validate them. I never heard a word. Anyway they won't hold me responsible for any unauthorized charges. You had better luck, I hope they tell us who and how after their investigations.

As a general rule they won't tell you who skimmed you Suz. Be good if they did...a late night visiy with half a dozen guys carrying baseball bats would teach them the error of their ways.

Well it would nice to know if it was related to an internet transaction or a phone transaction or someone rummaging through my garbage, don't care about the individual just the how'd they do it stuff. I could concentrate my efforts on that area and be safer.

Cover your butt in all areas by being very careful mate. As a general rule, I use only PayPal to pay for thing over the Net.

Interestingly enough, When Natalie and son Mike went to NYC last year I got a call from WestPac (Aussie NZ Bank) telling me they had stopped our credit cards as someone had used my wifes one in NYC - apparently I have to advise them when we travel overseas or the same thing can happen again - luckily I was able to ring them on a free call 24/7 as was my wife so it was fixed in 5 minutes and the drama was averted. Good to see they were on the ball .

Radar, I had that happen using the card in my home state when I went on vacation. Filled my car up at home, drove to the coast (5 hours), and tried to filll it again. The fraud folks at the bank noticed the times and locations so they froze the card until I called them.

I've had the same crap happen, the credit card company caught it and we went through a list of transactions and antthing that I didn't recognize was investigated and I was not charged for them.

My bank also decided to to only allow transactions in the states bordering Minnesota. It must have been in one of the notices that I didn't pay attention to. That happens to be the account I use when I travel for work. It is not cool when you card gets declined when you know there are thousands of dollars in the account and you are several time zones different fom the bank.

By the way, my bank allows me to set "alerts" on any card activity. I've just set them up in the last week and, for now, I get an email if the card gets used for anything.

Thanks Pumpkin I just noticed my card will update me IF I get on line and manage it. I don't want to make my account accessible on the internet.....or my bank account, it just seems like another convenient way for some hacker to compromise it, I think I'd rather not give them too many opportunities. It should all be done some other way. There's one guy on the internet that makes you send him two e-mails for a transaction, one with half the numbers on your credit card and one with the rest of them. If someone has your numbers whata ya do?

Well they must be pretty easily caught, because the card companies are readily freeing you of any liability. (my guess anyway)

Most of the scammers are never even tracked down. The purchases originate in foreign countries so nobody goes after them. The small time card thieves get caught if they use the card more than a couple of times.

Suz, as far as the banks are concerned it is a cost of doing business - and they have insurance so they don't lose much.If your identity is stolen you are the one that has to straighten it all out - not the banks.
