Well I just made an 80% lower (for the fun of it) and I don't know what to do with it. I made two of them, the first one I screwed up, the second one came out perfect. So I have a 7.62x39 upper, works great, and I thought about the 300 aac because ammo is not too hard to find and you can make 223 cases into 300 aac cases pretty easily if all else fails. Seems the 6.8 spc is popular right now and availability of parts is pretty widespread. Still figuring things out.

The 30-30 has been used for ages to hunt all kinds of deer. The 7.62x39 is slightly less powerful than the 30-30 and the blackout is less powerful than the 7.62x39. I think that 100 yards using a 150 grain bullet in the blackout is pushing the limits of the round. It has less power than my 357 Maximum (maybe even the magnum) and I limit the maximum to about 80 yards. Granted the bullets are different but at the BO velocities you can't expect any expansion and if the bullet isn't stabil it may hit broadside and not penetrate at all.

You should know that I am of the school that bigger is always better when it comes to bullets but if you can't get the bigger bullet up to a decent velocity you might as well be using a slingshot.

I have a 45-70 and was thinking of the 458 Socom (I like bigger too Paulie) but then there's the expensiveness of it all and that always brings me back to reality. I want something inexpensive to shoot. I guess the BO also has a tendency to tumble or you have to make sure it has the right twist for the bullet or some pickyness with them. The 6.8 seems to have too many variables in chamberings to figure out what's what....still reading, still figuring things out.

.300 BO has fast twist for subsonic operations and stabilize long .308 bullets. Velocity, however, is too low to for majority of them to function. The 6.8 didn't become the #1 AR hunting platform by having too many variables in the chamber. Remington didn't do the initial SPC chamber correct. Despite the bad start, the 6.8 has overcome and flourished with the SPC II. I don't know of a manufacturer that isn't making barrels with SPC II chambers. Twist rates and land-groove configurations do vary as with any chambering. AR15performance.com makes the best barrels for the money. They have good info on how the 6.8 has transformed. Bullet selection is excellent with several that will function out to 400 yards Here is a link to terminal performance if you are interested.

If it helps I am already gathering parts for a 6.8SPC II. I like the idea that there are so many different combinations to reload.
