Lest we forget.
In Australias case
416,000 enlisted
62,000 killed
150,000 wounded
Thats over 50% casualties.
This is when we had a population of around 4 million.
Every town in the country has a war memorial, some lost 20% or more of the male population.

May it never happen again.

Makes ya wanna propagate!!
War back then was nothing like today. They sure did pile on the troops like ants and back then you could look at a uniform and know who was who.

There are not many countries that have and continue to give so much in the never ending fight against evil, God bless Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, and the USA (if there are others I am remiss to mention I apologize).

Sadly our Governments trivialize the great sacrifice of so many by not standing strong in that tradition of fighting against evil. But then, I am an ignorant common man and obviously cannot understand robbers, rapists, and murderers. After all, its not their fault they are like that, their mommy was mean to them, and global terrorists well gosh look at what has happened to them in the past no wonder they're angry and if we just keep talking to them we are sure that they will stop killing civilians and blowing planes out of the sky. But, we also must ensure that our citizens rights are continuously eroded, because we as your governing body are more afraid of you then we are of criminals and terrorists.

In NZ we had a population of 1,000,000 people - we lost 18000 dead in the Great War - no war is great, we should learn from our mistakes. RIP all that heeded the call.

I have been watching the WWI series on the American Hero's Channel. It is very well done and quite informative. What a tragedy. All the best...

A number of years ago I obtained a copy of my maternal grandfather's war records. He served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in the Second Canadian Tunneling regiment. Unlike many, he would talk about his experiences especially to us grandchildren. I think he hoped it would make us anti-war. He lost a brother (Durham Light Infantry) who died from wounds in Dec. 1918. He was gassed and suffered from bronchial issues all the rest of his life. He was fortunate, 65,000 other Canadian servicemen and women were not
