Well sort of. I got to the range and fire two rounds and the sear would no longer hold the striker. No tools other than some screw drivers but I pulled the trigger out and apart to find the trigger binding on the pivot pin. I had a full brick of 22 to get rid of so I did what any red blooded American boy would do. I used a stone to grind down the center part of the pin until the trigger would spin on it. I used some grass to clean the dust off of everything and reassembled it. I used a bit of motor oil from my dipstick to lube it all up and went back to shooting. The trigger is terrible but it worked and I got through a couple of boxes of 22s before I just couldn't shoot any more. as I was getting ready to go another shooter came over and asked if I could wait while they loaded up their gear so I could let them out. They had forgotten their gate card and we were the last shooters at the range.

Even with challenges and my aching back it was good to get away from the other mental stuff and get something accomplished.

Tomorrow I will disassemble the gun and fix it properly with a new pin and some lapping, careful cleaning and the right lubricant on assembly. Tonight I am going to take some aspirin and rest.

I hope your day was at least as much fun as mine was.

Good for you, Paul! I have had to improvise at the range but nothing like that. Took the misses to the George Bush Library in Dallas. It was great!

Now there is a "Git 'er done" attitude! I pretty much always enjoy any range time, even if stuff screws up.

What's wrong with motor oil as a gun lubricant? I use ATF for all my guns.

I use ATF too Bushmaster but I cut it with 50% kerosine. It flows better.

Elvis, I would rather have the pork than do "flintstone gunsmithing", but you do what needs to be done.

Suz, It would be easier to take a couple of punches, a small hammer, a pair of pliers and a small sharpening stone.

I got the pin replaced and dressed the trigger pivot hole with a diamond countersink. It seems a lot better now. I did some looking around on the internet and this seems to be a common problem with this model. I may have to build a steel housing to replace the aluminum one.

Flow? I need it to lubricate where I put it. Not flow where I don't want it.

Yes but it has to creep between the surfaces and not just sit where you put it. I think ATF is fine - it has fairly good flow but I also use the same oil for penetrating oil - and it works as well as anything (better than most) on the market. It is about the consistency of 3 in 1 oil but has more corrosion resistance.

If you mix it 60/40 with STP oil treatment (or any of the viscosity index increasers) it is an excellent lube for slides and other areas that you need more body to keep it where you put it. I use Hilton's Hyperlube to thicken it and kerosine to thin it down. The thick stuff works for case lube - but you have to clean it off after sizing.

Other then powder solvents, lead and copper removing solvents. The only other products I use are ATF for general lube & preservation and military artillary gun (red) grease for slide rails.
