US Gov to destroy $1 billion worth of ammunition

Our wonderful military is going to destroy 1 billion worth of ammunition due to cataloging issues. They dont centeralize ammunition counts and needs, so 1 branch runs out while others have excess. So instead of just doing inventory and redistributing what they have, they are going to destroy it... which means future replentishment which means more demand for the source materials.

How stupid is that? MINIMALLY they should sell it to civilians if nothing more than to pull bullets and recoup cases and bullets.

I hate it when that happens. This merely points out that if we want something to get messed up; let the government do it. Where is standardization of ammo counts and distribution among the armed services? The government usually wastes too much because they can. All the best...

that is just plain frigging DUMB, heck if the pay me I will come over and drive the TRUCK and move it around for them.......
at the least they could destroy it one round at a time in a major range session.

Why don't they donate it to the CMP?

The CMP is always short on ammo.

It does not say what type of ammo it is in the story. May be Sidewinders and 40 mm grenades.

Man they should let us military personnel shoot it off!!! They were so stingy on ammo in basic! I shot only 300 rounds total throughout all of brm and ARM

That's because you guys are so wasteful and untrustworthy. That also explains why we have military personnel standing guard and sentry duty with empty magazines.
