My favorite gun shop got in a batch of Rock Island Model 1911 pistols and I wanted one. They were on sale at a very decent price so I called the shop to spend my tax refund. My regular guys were busy so I got to talk a newbie clerk. I clearly told him that I wanted a stock 1911 at the sale price. He kept trying to upgrade me to a tricked out 1911 for several times more money. After being in this revolving door for several minutes, he said too bad we sold out of the Rock Island 1911s. So I asked for a Rock island 1911 from the next delivery at the sale price. No luck, he said the shop would not honor the sale price. I hate it when that happens.
The next day I called back and got my regular clerk who promised me a Rock Island 1911 from the next order due into the shop next week. He also gave me the sale price. I explained the conversation with the newbie clerk. He told me the new guy was not going to be on the payroll for very long.
It pays to be persistent. Anyone have a similar experience? All the best...

you get to deal with people for long enough you build a rapport with them...works both ways..they look after you so they get your business, any newbie who gives a regular the run around wont last for long.
I will wait and browse untill get served by "my people" as it just works out best..the newbie will get little purchases if other is busy and if they shape up well they go on the list too...if not...yeah nah!!

I'm with you Elvis. Personal relationships are critical.

Perhaps some kindly advice from a more experienced clerk or the store owner would help. He obviously hasn't learned that the most important persons in retail are the customers. Unfortunately self importance seems epidemic in our young people. Manners and respect for others is often but not always lacking.

I am going to visit the same shop tomorrow and see what is available. Maybe I will chat with the newbie clerk. All the best...

I was at a Gander Mountain Saturday, trying to use some gift cards. As I wandered by the guns I overheard a clerk talking to a young couple who were looking for a gun for her. First, he was feeding them a bunch of BS and second, all prices there are MSRP with no negotiation. I bit my tongue and walked on. I did try to catch the couple as they left to tell them about some of the local gun stores where they could save at least 20% but they got away. I don't know where they find these clerks but apparently an extensive knowledge of firearms is not required.

The Gander Mountain stores around here are so worthless I rarely enter them any more. I surprised they're still in business.

The ancient adage "Buyer beware" is a good one to live by. That is unless you prefer "Ignorance is bliss".
