Alliant don't list it for the .257 Weatherby Magnum...they say that Reloader 33 is formulated for the .338 Lapua and other large magnum cartridges.

Reloder® 33
Rifle Powders
Reloder 33
Smokeless magnum rifle powder

Specific cartridge loads need specific propellant to perform to their ballistic peak. That's why Alliant Powder® put countless hours of research and development into creating Reloder® 33. The advanced powder is specifically formulated for the long-range .338 Lapua, although it is also ideal for a range of large magnum rifle cartridges. Its double base gives it consistent performance across temperature and humidity extremes, and it meters well for easy and precise loading.

Specifically designed for the .338 Lapua
Also suited for a variety of large magnum rifle cartridges
Double base formulation
Meters well
Superior lot to lot consistency

Principal Purpose: .338 Lapua
Secondary Uses: Large Magnum Cartridges

Remarks:
Specifically formulated for the long-range .338 Lapua, and also ideal for a range of magnum rifle loads

Alliant list Reloader 19, Reloader 22 and Reloader 25 for the 257 Weatherby Magnum, using bullets of 87gr to 120gr.

Having said that, looking at reloading data for other powders shows similar powders for both the .338 Lapua Magnum and .257 Weatherby Magnum, albeit with reduced charge weights. With some careful experimenting I'm sure you could work up a load using Reloader 33, but I really wonder if it is worthwhile when there appears to be other powders better suited to the calibre.

i couldnt agree more that there are other powders(4831,7828...) that are suited to this cartridge as good or better than rl33. finding these powders is another matter and i got a line on some rl33 thats available at a fair price. im just trying to improvise and overcome

I can't argue with those sentiments mate. Do a search for data using Reloader 19, 22 and 25 for both the 257 Weatherby Magnum and 338 Lapua Magnum, make a record of the reloading data and start your load development from there...taking careful note of pressure signs as you progress.

There is no doubt in my mind that Reloader 33 can be used for the .257 Weatherby Magnum...it's just a matter of whether or not it is efficient or if the powder is economically viable in that calibre. There is also the "rifle factor"...will your rifle like Reloader 33.

I would seriously consider throwing Alliant an email, or a phone call, for their guidance. Let us know how you go mate.

Re22 is used for the heaviest of bullets only and no mention of the slower powder so depending on the bullet you use you might find it useful if slow but it all depends on what you have and what you do with it.
